.. and this is how to do it.. apparently... http://www.wikihow.com/Do-the-Cup-Song

I saw this on Corrie this week I think - it was on one of the soaps anyway. The kids in school have been practising and are quite good.

I've known this song for a long time - and if you have a few moments - do listen to this song, today of all days - it's very moving.

There's a pop version around at the moment sung by Joss Stone which is incomplete and sentimental, but this is the original full version written and performed by Eric Bogle:

'Willie McBride' - we used to sing this in Folk Clubs ……. 'Flowers of the Forest' was rather spoiled by Joss the other day too wish people would leave such songs to those that wrote them or carried them through the 'proper' channels ……

Same here about the folk clubs back in the 80's... a good friend of ours used to sing it beautifully. I've only ever known it by that title (Willie McBride) but I see it goes by "No Man's Land" too.

The worst thing about the Joss version (apart from leaving out the last verse which was surely the point of the whole song?) is the dreadful video that went with it, with her floating about all in white amongst the Tower poppies - such a travesty!

It's a shame that nobody asked Eric http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/joss-stone-criticised-over-sentimentalising-famed-antiwar-song-for-poppy-appeal-9847312.html

On a different note(!) I didn't realise Jeff Beck was still alive!!
