What next after Mirena
« on: June 24, 2024, 07:06:08 PM »

Hello Ladies
I hope you are all doing well, particularly in this warm weather.

A bit of back story:
I've been on HRT for about 5 years now, the majority of which on sequential regime. I finally gave in to having a Mirena to go alongside my 100 Evorel patch in September last year, and once the initial cramping had passed, things were going pretty well. A couple of months in I noticed that I was still getting a "period" pain once a month, then it became twice. That was still ok but in the last month or two the pains were coming even more often.

Last week the cramps got so strong I rang the private gynae who put it in, and he asked to see me first thing this morning. The result was that even though things looked ok, we both decided that the best thing was to remove the Mirena.

After taking so long to settle on something that worked, I find myself back to square one again. My testosterone was low (added in Testogel in April, but no lightbulb moment yet!!). I really don't like using Utrogestan, it makes me feel groggy and horrible both in sequential and conti, the latter of which I bled erratically.

I asked whether I could use two Evorel Conti side by side to get the E + P I need and he has said that would be a good starting point. I messaged my GP today (as well as him writing with his recommendations) and they have arranged for an advanced nurse practitioner to call me tomorrow to discuss. I am expecting a fight on my hands though, they are not generally very happy to go against standard recommendations.

Has anyone else ever used 2 x conti patches successfully? I feel a bit gutted actually, other than what I can only imagine is shifting of the Mirena, it worked really well for me, my headaches (main symptoms) had gone completely. He did say I could try it again another time if I wanted to.

Sorry for the long-winded post, I feel quite alone today with this x
