Are there any that don’t have absorbent qualities? Do people use the washable ones? Just wondering how people cope with the messiness. I’m new to all these creams.

A lot of people on the Lichen Sclerosus forum that I belong to use period pants to protect their clothes from all the lotions and potions needed for their vulva.  Primark and M&S are regularly recommended. Apart from the obvious benefit to the planet and purse of being washable/reusable, they help for those who's vulvas are irritated by some pant liners.
