Anyone get cyclogest on NHS prescription?
« on: September 25, 2023, 12:11:42 PM »

Just curious as I have to get this privately as GP won't prescribe (off licence for HRT) so costing me a fair bit. Wondered if anyone else's GP happy to prescribe it. I can't seem to tolerate any of the progesterone types that my GP will prescribe so am stuck paying the cost.

Thank you

Flossy, why don't you try and buy it online?  If you can side step the doctor and do your own thing it will save you a lot of money.

How much is Cyclogest in the UK?  I bought some in a pharmacy in Spain and it cost just a few euros but I haven't tried it yet. I bought a box of 400mg pessaries to cut into 50mg doses.

Why is it not licensed for HRT on the NHS?  Sounds very strange and rather like the ridiculousness of Utrogestan not being licensed for vaginal use.

Hi Flossy

My GP has prescribed Cyclogest, so yours should also do the same. If they refuse, ask to see another GP.

Hi Flossy,

I get it through nhs gp but only after I went to a private meno specialist and she recommended it. However, she also asked for testosterone and was refused. I have to get that privately as it was a practice decision.

I think it’s to do with the person signing the prescription is liable rather than who asks for it. Maybe ask if it’s a “practice decision” or the gp themselves, if it’s the gp then ask if another would be open to prescribing it.
