High oestrogen or not?
«

I don't know if anyone can answer this since even my gp doesn't know why my shbg is high but....
My oestrogen blood test results are over 2000 and my testosterone is 1.7 so also high end of normal. But my shbg is over 200 and so my FAI cannot be calculated.
I've no idea whether I should be increasing or decreasing my hrt (estradot 50 and utrogestan 200). I don't know if my symptoms are because my oestrogen is going too high or if it might be that I don't have enough unbound oestrogen and testosterone because my shbg is too high. My shbg has increased at every blood test. I also don't know whether to just quit hrt and go to the birth control pill in order to get a bit more stability. My only concern with that really is whether the oestrogen dose would be enough especially as I'm 42 and concerned about bone health. I'd love to speak to someone who knows about hormones and even though my private GP is lovely, I think I maybe need a specialist endo perhaps? Any advice would be welcome!
Thanks

My last oestrogen test was 1,111 and I was told to immediately half my Sandrena from 2mg a day to one. Been doing that for a few weeks and feel bad - especially mentally. Low mood, tearful. Poor sleep and I think the odd mild hot flush.
2,000 sounds awfully high?

It does sound high.... but gp said it would be because of my own natural fluctuations (oestrogen was 100-1600 without hrt so even without it, I was outside of normal range on occasions). She said they treat symptoms not test results. Did your doctor have a reason for not repeating your blood test to see if it is sometimes low?

The doc was really reluctant to test in the first place! I got a locum off guard and they agreed to the tests.
I was twitchy and not sleeping well and a bit anxious so I wasn’t surprised it was high.
I’m concerned that halving the gel might make me go too far down though. I think I’ll manage to convince them to repeat the test in three months.
