Fibroid Trouble… please help!
« on: July 15, 2023, 07:35:09 PM »

Hello-
I am 51 and have had issues with severely heavy bleeding for the past 2 years. I have been anemic as a result (ferritin level of 4). In February I had a hysterscopic uterine ablation and a myomectomy (fibroid removal) in order to get the bleeding under control. All biopsies came back clear.
My first 4 cycles were significantly lighter which was an incredible relief. At the follow up I told my surgeon that bleeding had been reduced by 80% to which he mentioned I should probably see improvements beyond that over the next few months.
Unfortunately, my last three cycles seem to be increasing with bouts of flooding and larger clots again. Certainly not as bad as before but certainly not where I hoped to be.
I followed up with the surgeon and he will investigate but he did mention that the fibroid wasn’t entirely removed and that it could be the base of it still causing problems.
Has anyone else had a fibroid removal that required a second surgery?
I’m so fed up with this….

Hormones can certainly aggravate and stimulate a fibroid.  I was going to suggest that it was bleeding due to a 'scab' over the area, but it seems the the Surgeon thinks a little piece was left behind.  bugga ........ such a nuisance.

Does he suggest medication to ease heavy bleeding?  What was his over all suggestion, watch and wait or proceed with further surgical intervention?

I don't think that the medical profession realise how much periods impact on our over all life: pain, heavy bleeding, costs of protection, time off work etc..   >:(. Let us know how you get on.

I am booked in for another ultrasound the assess the situation in October. I asked what the next step would be and he said he would just wait to see what is happening.
The fibroid was measured 6 months before my surgery at 4.5cm. I think what may have happened is that it had grown during that time and with 5cm being the absolute largest to do hysterscopicaly, they may have gone in, taken what they could but probably would have been more appropriate to do is laproscopically.
I do do not understand how even a small piece can be so disruptive....
