No Bleed on Utrogestan
« on: June 11, 2023, 01:22:41 PM »

Hi
I wonder if anyone has a shared experience? Ive been on sequential Oestrogel and Provera successfully for over a year now. 2 months ago my GP suggested moving onto Utrogestan 200mg. Ive now had 2 full cycles and no withdrawal bleed. Had the bloating and slight period pain but thats all. GP says this is normal bcos of change over. Id prefer to go back on Provera as it worked fine! She only moved me because thats what everyone else uses!! Has anyone else gone through this? Many thanks

Hello. I’ve been on oestrogel and utrogestan for 3 months now and still have not had any withdrawal bleeding. I get a bit of cramping and back pain like it is imminent but it comes to nothing.

I was also put on Utrogestan and Oestrogel 2 months ago because the HRT I was on wasn’t available - my previous HRT (Cyclo- Progynova 2mg) gave me a light bleed each month like clock work (20+ years!) however being on Utrogestan I have not had a bleed at all, just as you/ other post put that had some cramps only.

… I am not surprised I am having no bleed as I was advised that Utrogestan keeps the lining thin negating the need for a bleed to happen, ok I thought it might take a couple of months to kick in, but seems immediate - not concerned etc

Hi TM73!

Thanks so much for replying. Thats really interesting to read. I just wish this constant period pain and bloating would either start a bleed (whos have thought there would be a day i was wishing for that!). Its really so uncomfortable x

If you're not bleeding on sequential HRT, it's a good sign you are ready to move to continuous. You might want to ask your doctor if you can do this. There is better endometrium protection on continuous too.

Hi Tynkabelle
Thanks for your reply and extremely interesting you are in a similar predicament after moving progesterone.
Constant cramps here now and lower abdomen bloating, awful! I think I need to go back on provera. X

Hi Joziel

This is what the nurse suggested, however im confused as to why i was bleeding fine and regularly on provera but it stopped as soon as utrogestan was introduced. Would be happy to go onto continuous if i wasnt experiencing this constant period pain and bloating.  :'(

Aren't we weird! I've been no bleeding on sequential utrogestan gel for several years (did check with my specialist, she got me to try continuous which induced continuous bleed so she said to go back to sequential). I recently got put on provera due to shortage of utrogestan and have started a bleed and I'm hating it! I did see a reference elsewhere suggesting that utrogestan wasn't very good at controlling bleeding, so it may relate to your underlying now hormones? Povera is specifically used to induce bleeding I believe, so presumably is very 'good' at it.
