Osteoporosis fracture
« on: January 31, 2023, 03:47:00 PM »

Has anyone had a compression fracture in the spine from osteoporosis? How did you manage it successfully? Were doctors helpful?

OUCH!  Has this been confirmed by X-ray?

MayB have a lookC at the Osteoporosis Charity web-site ......... I know that HRT can protect heart and bones, as can impact exercise on a regular basis.  Is there a history of osteoporosis in your Family?

We’re the Royal Osteoporosis Society – the UK’s largest national charity dedicated to improving bone health and beating osteoporosis. And we’re here for everyone. We equip people with practical information and support to take action on their bone health.

Working with healthcare professionals and policy-makers, we’re influencing and shaping policy and practice at every level. We’re driving the research and development of new treatments, to beat osteoporosis together.

MayB once the pain is less move around gently to stop seizing up.

I've got osteopenia which was full osteoporosis in the past. It was the hip not the spine but I would seriously suggest ringing the Osteoporosis society to speak to a specialist nurse. The number is 0808 800 0035.

It was a combination of things Jaypo. I did use HRT but given I'd been on the pill for many years I suspect that was just more of the same. So what I did change was:
- To have cereal with milk every day.
- Increase weight bearing exercise.
- Take a Calcium and Vit D3 supplement.
- If it's sunny get out for 10-20 mins to boost Vit D absorption.
- Use medication. First was Alendronic acid - disaster. Since then it's 6 monthly jabs of Denosumab.

Again - apologies to Hellsbells but question for Jaypo.
Are you taking Alendronic Acid or any other Bisphosnonates (sp) I was only able to get the Denosumab as I couldn't deal with the other stuff. Mind you I'm in Wales, things may be different where you are.
