Perimenapause started at 33
« on: January 05, 2023, 12:02:28 PM »

Hello everyone,

I am currently 3 year's into my perimenapause, it has been a difficult journey so far. Firstly my Dr didn't want to do anything about it and said it was due to breastfeeding my twins but 2 years later my fsh and Lh are all over the place and I'm struggling.
It's putting huge strain on my relationship, I don't feel like my partner of 18 years understands or sympathies at all, and feel all he cares about is that I don't have a sexdrive and so he isn't getting the sex he could be and tells me he knows he could be getting it elsewhere but he wants me. My anxiety (which I never had before) is so intense. Thankfully some Bach flower remedies are helping a little.

Can anyone suggest what helped them best naturally and if seeing an nhs gynacologist helped. I am considering hrt just to see if it will stop the constant feeling of doom and gloom.

Any info greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Morning.  Give Him a  :kick: :beat: then tell him to 'go elsewhere'.   What he is saying is coercion which is illegal - he may like to be made aware?

Your GP is negligent, so many do not realise that perimenopause can begin at 'any' age: that no one is 'too young'  >:(.   :welcomemm:  you are in the right place.  Browse round. Make notes ;-)

Which symptom would you like to ease first?  Some find that keeping a mood/symptom/food diary is of use to chart progress.  Anxiety tends do become bothersome due to hormonal upheaval.  HRT may help as would the appropriate anti-depressant medication or a dedicated anti-anxiety drug.  Rescue remedy can be useful.

Don't bother with a gynaecologist, ask for a referral to a specific menopause clinic.  Gynaes are a bit like GPs, they don't have much of a clue!

Hello and welcome to the forum. No wonder you feel low with all you have going on. Your experience of being dismissed by DRs as you are 'too young' is sadly very common. It happened to me when I was 38. In my opinion HRT would be so helpful because it can really help to regulate the low mood which is caused by hormones. I would never be without HRT myself and you can always stop it if you do not think it suits you.

Is there a more supportive DR at your practice? If so you could make an appointment to discuss HRT options for you.

As for your partner, he sounds very selfish and cruel. To suggest he could go elsewhere is blackmail.

Perimenopause does play havoc with anxiety which is were HRT can be helpful.

CLKD is right. Menopause clinic is what you need, not a gynane. You have come to the right place and you will find lots of support on here. :)

Do print off 'advice for husbands' from the Forum: read and hand over ;-). I've bumped it.

Thanks for your replies. I am now on day 6 with my hrt and am very hopeful it will reduce my anxiety.

Will I begin my period on my final day of progesterone? Are they worse than the ones you had when your hormones were functioning on their own?

I will ask to see a menopause specialist when I next speak to my GP.

Thanks again x :)

Don't wait until you have an appt with your GP, ring the Surgery and ask to be referred.  There are waiting lists in both NHS and Private Clinics, don't be fobbed off with a gynaecologist ;-)

Can't answer your question: any info in the leaflet in the box?
