Serum ferritin level
« on: December 21, 2022, 11:14:54 AM »

Good morning,

I have recently had a blood test done and my Serum ferritin level has come back as Serum ferritin level 24 ug/L

The result has been marked satisfactory no further action but the levels indicate possible low iron. The reason I had a blood test done is because I’m so tired, no energy and I wake between 2 and 4 am every morning then stay awake from 1 to 2 1/2 hours. Could I be in need of iron supplement?

Has anyone had this result and been advise to take iron tablets?

Also who marks the test result as satisfactory? The laboratory or your GP?

Also wondering if anyone has tried L Theanine and Lemon Balm supplements to help with sleep?

Hi there,it's the labs that determine if a result is satisfactory,I wouldn't worry too much about it tbh but if you feel it's the cause of your tiredness I'd speak to your Dr.Thing is,you could have the test done again tomorrow and the results could come back normal.

The waking early is probably down to cortisol/adrenaline,as the early hours is when it seems to to kick in for most of us, I always wake way too early too OR just can't nod off, have your tried magnesium tablets? If you can take them, they are fab for helping with sleep.ah the joys of menopause x

I believe low ferritin can affect sleep in older people.

I’ve found magnesium and taurine really helpful (look up lara Briden on this)

In women ferritin over 80 is ideal though you’ll raise quickly if not bleeding.

diet has an impact - milk, caffeine, anything with calcium in blocks absorption. Vit c helps.

I found prescribed tablets wrecked my gut and found spatone with vit c works surprisingly well if follow their instructions. (I take 2 if need to raise.)

Hello ladies.

I just wanted to add that Spatone was recommended to me by a doctor who specialised in iron infusions. He said that for maximum benefit use a sachet every other day.

Take care ladies.
