Also, I don't think that all women who are not on HRT might develop osteoporosis.  It's usually a hereditary condition.

Although there may be a genetic link there are quite a few other causes. You can read up on it here and calculate your own risk https://theros.org.uk/information-and-support/osteoporosis/causes/

Hi Taz,

The way I see it is down to luck.

Like any other disease, you either get it or you don't.  I'm not going to go into the mental trauma of telling myself 'if I don't go on HRT, I will get osteoporisis' because it's purely a speculation.  I cannot allow myself to think that a lack of oestrogen and not taking HRT are the culprit of any disease I might get in the future. I associate diseases with age.  For men, I've never heard that a lack of testosterone will cause them to have a heart attack.  They, like us, get old and are prone to diseases but nobody has ever said that it was hormone-related.

Going back to osteoporosis, I know a bunch of long-post menopausal ladies who haven't got osteoporosis.  A few ladies might get it but not all of us will.

I only sent the link to show that many factors can cause osteoporosis so taking HRT doesn't always solve the problem. It can however give us the best chance to keep ourselves healthy in some ways. For me life became very difficult which is why I started HRT.

I don't associate diseases purely with age though having friends who suffered various ailments well before menopause.

Also, I have two male relatives plus three male friends who are all on testosterone to improve heart health. They all approached their GPs for Viagra and were given checks first to rule out underlying health problems leading to testosterone supplementation.
