Hi, how do GPs know which dose of Evorel to prescribe? Is it trial and error? I’m going to ask my Dr for evorel when I am there next week and was thinking about asking for 50 to start with. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think you ladies know more than some GPS! Px

Hi Polly

Start low and feel it out before you think of increasing.

So yes indeed, unfortunately, it is trial and error.

Hello yes it seems to be trial and error. I was started on the 50 two and a half weeks ago after the Dr discussed it with a menopause specialist. I hope itbhelps you but bear in mind it seems to take a while to get into your system like any new medication x

Hi Polly1974

You should aim to be in 50 as that is an average dose and the amount of oestrogen needed to protect your bones. If you are nervous you could start on a 25 and work your way up to 50.

As an aside I went straight in at 50 and was absolutely fine. We are all different x

It is a long process, but you want to get it right.  I started on 25mcg back in March and have only just made it up to 75mcg.  At one time I thought my 50 mcg dose was too high, but then started getting more symptoms again.  I wish it was quicker to get to the correct dose, but your body needs time to adjust!  However, you can try other things too e.g. I couldn't believe what a difference vagifem made to what I thought were mild VA symptoms.

I started on 50 in peri, it seems to be the usual starting dose. You can change up or down as required (yes it's trial and error). If you've been without oestrogen for some years they may start you on 25.

Hi Polly - Just had a quick look back at your other posts and I would definitely start on 50 mcg at least. I see you have been on the combined pill but how long have you been off it? Have you had any natural periods yet? You won't have any idea about how far you are into menopause if you've been on the pill as that suppresses the cycle so maybe you're not even peri yet? The Mirena will act in the same way as back to back combi pill ie will often prevent bleeding eventually (though can depend on oestrogen dose and also any peri fluctuations).
