I might start HRT tomorrow eeek
« on: October 04, 2022, 08:56:49 PM »

Hi all, Looking for a bit of encouragement and wisdom.

I'm 43, almost 44 and have been perimenopausal for a couple of years.

All the women in my family have early menopause.  Generally finished with periods before 45.

I've been spotting bleeding since mid Aug, have been on the mini pill (progesterone) to make it stop, which it has, but as soon as I stop taking it, the spotting starts again.

I also suffer bad Joint pain, but no other menopause symptoms.

I'm talking to the doctor tomorrow and she said that she will start me on HRT tomorrow.

I'm reluctant, but I feel like I have run out of options.

I'm mainly reluctant as I was hoping to have no periods at all in a year or two, but with HRT goodness know what it will do to my bleeding pattern.

Thanks in advance  ::)

You can continue to take the mini pill and that way you should not have the worry of bleeding. You can actually take 2 destrogestal as the progesterone part of HRT but I am not sure if GPs know this. I was told this by a menopause specialist.

Remind yourself, if you are not happy with the HRT then you can always stop it or try another type. It would be wonderful if your joint pain was to ease. It would give you a new lease of life. :)

I have been on Femoston 1/10 one week now

The only symptom I've had for past two years in debilitating hip pain, which gets worse with exercise.  So I'm really really hoping this will help.

Does anyone know how long it might take to start seeing improvements?

OP - out of interest, did you have a blood test confirming early menopause? Do you know the results?
I'm 41. No real menopause symptoms but periods are not always predictable. I had blood tests showing very high fsh (30-32) and high oestrogen. I'm trying to get an answer on whether it is perimenopause or something else but most ranges are premenopause or postmenopause. So I'm interested to know what results you might have had as another woman early forties. Thanks

Hi Floraljo

Yes I've had blood tests.  My Oestradiol was less than 70 and my serum FSH was 129.4.  So both consistent with peri menopause.

Although I do think I have been perimenopausal for past 4years with irregular periods for last 2 or 3 years.  So maybe you are at very early stages.
Hope that's helpful.

Thank you so much for answering that. My oestradiol is high (725). I'm a bit baffled but hoping it's just perimenopause starting.
