Is this it?
« on: September 16, 2022, 03:43:06 PM »

Well, been trying HRT for 3 years now, with little success.

Not absorbing much patch, any gel or tablet.

My sleep is non existent, anxiety in the morning, off the scale, libido non existent ( once again!) and just irritable as hell. Brain fog is at another level! Noise sensitive also.

What an earth can I do?
I’m 51 and really struggling with it all now. I need to change job ASAP as my patience has gone totally.

At a total loss with these hormones.

Also, can I take femeston conti with a mirena in situ? I can’t be bothered to have it removed just yet, but might try the tablets again even though they contain progesterone.

Definitely the mirena, it’s well known for causing low mood, irritability and quashing libido. I would not attempt to add Femoston conti it’ll only make it worse. If anything you need extra oestrogen to balance the negative side effects of the progesterone in the mirena x

Hi is it that you’re not absorbing or that you’re not on a high enough dose ? You may be absorbing the maximum from the dose you are on but actually need a higher dose. xxx

Hi Nas

After a year of trying HRT patches and gels blood tests showed I wasn’t absorbing transdermally. I had implants put in about 8 weeks ago and I was really starting to feel the effects …….until I had the coil fitted ….. that’s come out now and I’ve just posted asking to views on that.

Anyway, might be worth researching implants as that way absorption isn’t an issue!

Hi Nas

I had my mirena out last week after 18 months and can already feel my mood lifting. I’m on the utrogestan now.
Just wanted to say that my best days were on Femoston in my early phase of HRT (and things were very rocky then). I had to move to transdermal as I’m on Levothyroxine and having to take the tablet 4 hours away from the Levo meant I kept forgetting it. Have you had it before?
Im 54 and finding the same with patches and now back to gel having no clue how much to use or how little. After years of stability, I’ve been flung back and I thought post meno things would be easier.
I hope you’re ok just wanted to say I fully sympathise with the ‘what do I do next’.
Good luck with the Femoston xx

Yes Dotty, it’s likely I need a higher dose. I’ve just moved to the 100 patch from 75. Will see how things are in a month or so. I can’t get a higher dose; specialist won’t prescribe it

Perinowpost, I don’t think it’s the mirena, things were slipping before it was fitted. Plus I’ve got low oestrogen symptoms.

Happy, do you think the coil was contributing to your symptoms then? The trouble is, I will bleed on utrogestan if the coil is removed. 🤦‍♀️

Hi Nas

Yes, the coil was awful for me. I only had it in for 8 days! On day 6 I woke up with all my worse symptoms …… brain fog, jittery, dizzy, exhausted …..felt like I couldn’t even string a sentence together which was awful work-wise. Had it taken out last Wednesday but still feel rough……

Hi Shopping,
I have had femeston before, but it wasn’t enough oestrogen and my bladder went awol and low mood started to set in. I lasted around 12 weeks on it.

Then, I had the mirena fitted to allow me to take oestrogen
only safely.

Utrogestan doesn’t control my bleeding, that’s the problem.

What dose of oestrogen do you take now?

It’s SO tricky to navigate all of this x

Oh crikey Happy, that’s awful.
I just don’t know then. I’ve had mine almost 4 months now and just upped my patch. If things don’t improve soon, it’s coming out and I will start from scratch again i think. X

Dotty, I think you are right. It’s possible that I’ve absorbed as much as I can from the 75 patch and now an increase is needed. I’ve been on the 75 for a good 2 years ( apart from when on femeston for 12 weeks). I guess if the 100 doesn’t work, patches aren’t for me any longer? X

I think elleste comes in oestrogen only if you want a pill. I don't think you've come to end of the road with transdermal though. Most GPs will prescribe up to 100 and a specialist should prescribe more if it's needed. I was told up to 6 pumps by a specialist (150 equivalent) though I haven't needed more than 100. Or you could have 100 patch and top up with gel. I think there's someone on here on 2x100 patches. I can't remember if you're on testosterone? It should help with libido.

You might find upping to 100 will make all the difference, give it chance for a few weeks first. Then if still not right snip a bit off one and add it along with full size patch.

Hello Nas

So sorry that you are having these problems.

I have followed your journey as best I can lol.  I recall that you experienced bleeding on the 75 patch so  if you increase to 100 does that mean you can keep the Mirena as the extra oestrogen will offset the prog?
Is it right that Utrogestan didn't control your bleeding? I know that when I increased my Sandrena gel patches and used Utrogestan vaginally alternate nights, this resulted in very heavy bleeding followed by investigations etc.

Take care.

Hi Nas

I’m just going back to 3 pumps after the epic fail with patches. I’m only a few days in and still having symptoms so I’m just going to have to stick it out. I was successfully on gel for 2 years until I started messing about putting pumps up and down, then patch trial then back to gel. It’s my own fault. So now I need to settle and stick. Fingers crossed for you Nas xx

Thanks again all.
Feel like I am having a complere breadown right now. Fuzzy head, snappy, can't sleep, heart pounding. I upped the patch to 100 from 75 and feel worse! I am concerned dementia is setting in. Yesterday, whilst at work, I simply could not understand a simple instruction. My head feels like cotton wool..what id going on?

I am reluctant to have this coil removed, in case I need to stay on oestrogen and start bleeding again. Kathleen, you are right, I do bleed on utrogestan and the mirena has stopped the bleeds. It could be the mirena, causing me bother, I don't know.

Sheila, I do have testosterone but concerned that my oestrogen isn't optimised, so don't know if I will gain any benefit from it or not?

Shopping, definitely do not tamper with doses of oestrogen, it is fatal. Stick with your 3 pumps and hopefully things will settle down for you.

None of this helped by trapped nerves in my arm causing me to feel like I am have been hit by a sledge hammer!
