Confused by GP advice
« on: August 11, 2022, 04:04:30 PM »

Hi there,

I have just started 75mg dose patch with utrogestron 200mg for 14 days. I was given fem seven but they keep falling off! I used a month supply in a week.
I spoke to a gp and and prescribed the evorel 50 twice weekly. I asked for 75 and she said the 50 was equivalent to the weekly 75mg patch? I’m kinda confused.

If you haven't had HRT before this, and the Fem Sevens kept falling off because they wouldn't stick (so you haven't really taken that dose or been on that consistently either) why not give the Evorel 50 a try for 12wks. It is the standard starting dose and if you find you need more, you can always increase.

Hi Joziel,

I have been struggling for a while to get something that works.

I have taken the standard dose before with evorel sequil. It wasn’t enough and stopped working. Then another dr put me on elleste Duet. All my symptoms came back. So another gp suggested 75mg with Utrogeston.

I'm not surprised you're confused, your gp is too. If 50 wasn't enough you need evorel 75. The number of patch changes in a week is irrelevant, it doesn't alter the dose.

MayB not 50 to 75 all at once?  Perhaps add 75 a couple of times a week initially to see how the body reacts?

Thanks Sheila, I kinda thought that was the case. I did say that to my gp but she was adamant that I was wrong. I really don’t like phone consultations. I get anxious and my confidence at the minute is so low.

Starfish, if you have 50 patches and you want 75s, you can just cut one of the 50s in half to make 25 and have a 50+25.

You will then run out sooner  ;D so you will have to fess up to your GP but you could explain that you had to increase because (as you said originally) 50 wasn't enough.

Thanks Joziel. I will try that and phone and speak to another gp on Monday. I feel so frustrated just trying to get the right medication.
