Warmest thanks, everyone,

yes, I am reassured this country has a wonderful health system. I should also add that the doctor who broke the news said that the cancer is not related to the hormonal therapy and that the biopsy can actually reveal this. Not really a silver lining but important for everyone to know since I read a related post on this particular matter.

Onto the CT scan tomorrow ... Fingers crossed!

I'm sorry to hear about your mum Cocobra but hoping for good results from the scan tomorrow. She is lucky to have such a caring and capable daughter. Don't forget to look after you too though.

Dear All,

thank you so much for your thoughts. A whole week of scans: tomorrow CT scan and fingers crossed it's localised. I dread to think what would have happened in the UK with the NHS on its death bed.

I would like to point out for others reading this thread and might be worried, patients with serious life threatening conditions are fast tracked within the NHS and treated accordingly.

Actually the NHS (in Wales) can pull it's finger out. I've had postmenopausal bleeding, the GP I saw has done an urgent referral to  the one stop gynae clininic. This will apparently happen within two weeks...........

Dear All,

many thanks for all your thoughts and good wishes. CT scan results received today, but language is so technical I've had to send the report to my cousin who's a hematologist. Looking forward to speaking to the oncology clinic soon ... All best to everyone!

Hi Cocobra

I am so sorry to hear about your mother and endometrial cancer.

"I should also add that the doctor who broke the news said that the cancer is not related to the hormonal therapy and that the biopsy can actually reveal this. Not really a silver lining but important for everyone to know since I read a related post on this particular matter."

In your mother's case - this is very reassuring - if they have information from the biopsy that demonstrates this, and so that she and you don't think "if only...".

However for those reading - and I hope you don't mind my mentioning this on this thread, but there is a direct causal link between overthickened endometrium and endometrial cancer that MAY occur, and an imbalance between oestrogen and progesterone can lead to this, hence always the caution in deviating from licensed and recommended doses.

Often an overthickened endometrium causes abnormal bleeding as a warning of this, as it did in your mother's case but the stage at which abnormal bleeding occurs obviously differs amongst women - so the absence of bleeding on continuous HRT doesn't necessarily mean all is well.

Your mother's situation has prompted me to look at my own HRT and womb since I had a thickened endometrium  (as demonstrated on private scan) though without abnormal bleeding, but I need to follow it up with NHS GP to make sure they check whether it has thinned.

I wish your mother all the best in her treatment and do take care yourself.

Hi hurdity, this was my problem my progestrone levels were so low the lining of my womb was thick I bled for months thinking it would stop nothing heavy but sadly it didnt luckily the cancer was contained in the womb it didn't spread I had full hysterectomy with removal of my ovaries

4 years ago age 63 I initially had leaking bladder for some months, GP thought something might be pressing on it, but despite my ability to cut off a wee mid flow without much difficulty (& I still can), he decided to 'monitor' it for a bit longer & I became an expert on the likes of Tena Ladies.

Fairly soon I started 'spotting' instead, then erratic bleeding so GP put me on the 'cancer' fast track & within a week I saw the hospital Gynae. I had been on 1/3rd of a tablet of Premique Low Dose (I had cut it up for YEARS, didn't really want to be on HRT at all, but hot flushes were crippling) for roughly 10 years.

I had a scan & an internal, a bleeding polyp was identified, biopsy proved it to be benign, & my endometrial thickness was 31mm (I think 'normal' should be 10mm?). Removal of the polyp was scheduled, then cancelled. Reschedule was also cancelled (both times in line with the NHS process for cancelling 'non urgent' at the 11th hour).  I went on a trip to Jamaica obliged to use heavy tampons as bleeding had become constant & heavier.

Day after arrival my body decided to push this 'polyp' out itself & it dropped down when I removed the tampon to change it.  I was bleeding pretty badly & the thing could be seen & felt OUTSIDE my body!!! There was no pain whatsoever through the entire leaky bladder, spotting, bleeding & now giving birth to a polyp. None.

Hotel nurse sent me to hospital in the Jamaican version of an 'ambulance', though it did have 2 qualified paramedics. NHS here were only going to remove the polyp, Jamaica specialist did a full D&C, showed me a photo of the polyp but said in his opinion it was too big for that & more likely a fibroid.

Jamaica hospital was stunning & care fantastic, invoice was HUGE, thankfully fully insured.

So a good result but I'm so sorry Cocobra's mum (& others) weren't so lucky, but hopefully all caught in time, though major operations & cancer treatment is just ghastly.
