Androfemme vs Testim or Testogel
« on: July 04, 2022, 07:48:41 PM »

I’m thinking of asking my GP if they will take over my Testosterone prescription.
I’m very settled on .5ml Androfemme from Newson Health but it’s costly and about to get more expensive!
Has anyone changed successfully from Androfemme to Testogel or Testim? Thanks

I’ve tried all 3 and prefer Testogel for results, application, cost and easy availability. I’ve not tried Tostran which is available on the NHS too.

I was just thinking about this myself as I’m on the same as you from Newson but it isn’t affordable long-term for me now it’s going up. I’m just nervous about switching now everything is ok! I have another appointment soon so I was going to discuss then.

Morning ladies. I have been on Testim for only 4 weeks after being on Androfem for 9 months with no results. Hoping it will work this time xx

I compared all the extra ingredients in all the testosterones and found that Testogel was the best/safest. The others - especially AndroFemme - all had parabens or benzo-things in them which can interfere with hormones (why would you want to risk that when trying to sort your hormones!?  :o )

I do a blob of Testogel a day and rub it into my upper thigh with a little spatula so I don't get it on my hands (in case I want to do a finger **** blood test some time). Takes no time to dry and really easy.

Also way cheaper than AndroFemme.

I'm happy with Tostran though that's the only one I've tried. The dose is one pump every other day which seems to be much easier than trying to determine the correct  size of a petit pois.

It's pretty easy-going, you don't need to be precise about it. Sometimes my sachet lasts 12 days, sometimes 10 days. Once it was 14 days. It's not like estrogen where you'd be affected by fluctuations, it's pretty rough and ready.

Once you've figured out the approx size of blob that gets you 10 doses, then you try to stick to that size each day. No petis pois in sight  ;D ;D

I prefer testim. I tried testogel but had a reaction to it so couldn’t use it.

To answer your question I don’t think androfem is signed off by the nhs which is why you have to pay for it privately (I get testim on the nhs). I was prescribed androfem once by an nhs specialist but when it came to my GP prescribing it it said something like (don’t quote me) red pathway not permitted, she showed me her pc screen. It’s a few years ago now so can’t remember the exact wording.

Hopefully things will change soon and GP’s will be able to prescribe it. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes apparently x

Thank you all for your replies. Here’s hoping my GP will consider it!
