Recommendation for Dry Vsgins
« on: June 11, 2022, 11:44:00 PM »

I've used coconut oil which is good. Tried one of the vag moisturisers, it was none better than the coconut oil.

Any suggestions please, by that I mean topical ointment/moisturiser.

Thank you.

YES products are highly recommended on this forum and on prescription, or you can purchase direct from the company online.

If your vagina is dry due to lack of oestrogen, then appropriate VA treatment will help.  Don't dismiss it as it is a small amount of oestrogen to keep the tissues plumped up, less dry and itchy and for most, it works.

You need to go to your GP and request Vagifem pessaries (little tablets you insert up there at night, using a pre-loaded applicator) and Ovestin cream. Both of these are local estrogen and it's that which will help vaginal dryness.

You will need to experiment to find the amount that works for you. Vagifem is supposed to be used 2x weekly but there are women who use it every day. Use whatever you need of it, it is a tiny local dose and doesn't get into the blood stream.

Then there are non-prescription products. I like YES OB or Olive and Bee. But really these are not going to be optimal without the local estrogen as well.

Apparently soon we are supposed to be able to get local estrogen without a prescription, over the counter. I can't wait. They said it will be for women over 50. I have visions of now faking an ID card as I'm 44. It will make me feel like I'm 16 again, faking IDs  ;D ;D ;D

Regarding ovestin without prescription, I hope this does not lead to gp's not prescribing it.  I can't afford 2 tubes a month.

Whoops wrong person then Joziel.

I don't know why this would be over the counter to be honest unless it is cheaper than GPs prescribing it?

I think the idea is to make it more available to women. But I think your GP can still also prescribe it. When or if it all happens!

Thanks for the advice. But does anyone know of anything more natural?

Olive & Bee contains olive oil and beeswax, nothing else.

It depends on what you consider natural  :-\ - menopause after all is natural with prescribed treatments that are known to help ease symptoms.

Estrogen is very 'natural', it's the hormone your own body has made all its life until now.

WIthout it, your vulva will atrophy and shrivel up. Inner labia will recede over time. Clitoris will shrink and retract. Everything will get smaller in there, causing a lot of discomfort.

This happens in 80% of women so don't think it won't happen(!).

You need to add in (natural!) estrogen to restore things or maintain them. You need to get this from a doctor at the moment.
