Endometrial cancer/ruling out
« on: May 11, 2022, 01:35:42 PM »

On Monday I went to my Dr as I have been bleeding for the last few months since my covid booster on a conti regime . (I’m late peri and period free on this regime for a year beforehand) he hadn’t a clue what to do and said he would have to get back to me then today I received this txt from my surgery

Dear Ms Clifford,

Just to let you know that I have referred you to the 2 weeks wait Gynaecology pathway, to exclude endometrial cancer with bleeding in the menopause, as a precaution.

Please book yourself in for a blood test, which is a requirement for the referral.

Thanks, Jens ROHRBECK

Can anyone tell me what to expect with this appointment?

Hi

Your doctor really should have spoken to you! They usually refer you under the 2WW to get you seen quickly not necessarily that they think you have cancer.

When I had the same, I had an internal ultrasound then a biopsy. It was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced - the nursing assistant had to hold me down - I would refuse to have another without anaesthetic.  A lot of woman don’t find it as painful though.

I didn’t hear back for a month so I assumed by then everything was okay! And it was.

Ask to speak to your GP if you feel you need more clarification. Hope it goes well x

It's standard to investigate bleeding after 1+ yrs of no bleeding ie post meno bleeding. Don't be too concerned because it's probably OK. I had bleeding 4 years post meno, it turned out to be 'a period' and benign. I had an internal ultrasound scan and they attempted to take a biopsy but my cervix was shut tight and the couldn't get past it. Yes it was bloody painful, I wouldn't have it done again. Speak to the consultant before they start and explain you want them to stop if you find it too painful. I ended up going back for it to be done under light general anesthetic. Everything was OK for me and I'm sure it will be for you.

I had quite heavy bleeding on continuous HRT and went down the ultrasound route, and then this was followed up by a series of hysteroscopies and biopsies. I'm having my fifth set in a few weeks' time. They thought at first I might have atypical hyperplasia (possible precancerous cells), but have since decided it was benign polyps/non-dangerous type of hyperplasia. It has got gradually less of a problem since I had a Mirena coil fitted and I don't bleed any more. I don't think Utrogestan for progesterone (continuous with Oestrogel) ever worked properly for me.

I don't find the hysteroscopies unbearable and just have a bit of local anaesthetic on the cervix. But I think a lot, depends on your internal geography, whether you've had a vaginal delivery and how skilled the specialist is. I usually take the maximum dose of ibuprofen plus paracetamol beforehand.

Good luck. Quite a few of us have been through this and come out with reassurance.
