Diagnosis is cervical cancer
« on: March 27, 2022, 10:41:45 PM »

Well, this past Wednesday I was at the hospital for my hysteroscopy, polypectomy and a D&C. I've posted here in the past about my seventh month long bout of bleeding and my crippling health anxiety caused by trauma as a child. I could no longer stand it anymore. I was utterly exhausted in every way, but I managed to find the courage (much of which came from you ladies) to see a specialist.

What was supposed to be a 40 minute procedure turned into 2 hours when the surgeon found an 8cm tumor on my cervix. This was the height of everything I feared. A biopsy was done on my bladder and rectum during the procedure. Test results thankfully showed cancer hadn't spread.

I'm having a PET scan and an MRI this Friday to decide what comes next.

I'm begging everyone, please tell me if you have or are currently going through the same thing. I need something to hold on to.

Hi Becky. I'm not going through this but just wanted you to know that your post has been read and that I'm sending you a hug. Well done on going through with the procedure on Wednesday. I know what courage that took.

Although your diagnosis is scary it is really good news that your cancer hasn't spread. I'm not sure how cervical cancer is dealt with in the US but I'm sure things will move quickly. We are all here for you so post whenever you can and there will always be someone around to listen and hold your hand.

Firstly - well done, it takes courage to face investigations of a private nature with the worry of 'what might be'.

Here in the UK ladies are given a dedicated nurse for support.  MayB you could speak to the Consultant's secretary to find out what is available.  Make notes as to how you feel to discuss at each appt., issues can so easily be forgotten.  My breast consultant insisted on them so that we could work through the list for reassurance.

What support do you have at home?

Sending hugs.

Well done for having the courage to get this investigated.  It's really positive news that it hasn't spread - hold on to that knowledge x

I have no words to help you but do hope that the scan and MRI on Friday go well, and you will then be able to discuss the way forward.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I can't even begin to express my gratitude for everyone's virtual hugs and support.

I live with my mother and she is the most amazing, supportive cheerleader. I feel lucky and blessed to have her - and all of you - in my corner.

I did get a bit of good news this afternoon. My gynecologist called to check in on me and let me know the pathology results from my biopsy had been updated. Because of the size of the tumor she couldn't get the scope too far into my uterus, but she now believes that the cancer is in my uterus and not my cervix. She said that the cancer would be easier to treat. I almost fainted in relief!

I'm having the initial consult with oncology on Friday and the scans are now scheduled for April 12. They needed to push the scans back so my insurance has time to review my test results and approve the PET and MRI.

In the meantime, I'm taking Tylenol and oxycodone to keep the debilitating cramps at bay. I'll keep everyone updated on my progress.
