Advice on Testosterone please
« on: March 16, 2022, 12:10:27 PM »

Hi,
I’m new here but not new to menopause.
I was in peri menopause and taking Ellestte Duet quite successfully then had bilateral ovary removal around 4 years ago. Nobody told me I may need testosterone therapy and if I hadn’t found this site I would still not have known it was a thing.
During lockdown part 1 my HRT became in short supply and my GP put me on Tiblone which did not suit me at all so I stopped taking anything at all. I have since found out that Tiblone is an HRT alternative, not what I asked for.
Anyhow, I have started a new HRT program, Sandrena Gel and Utrogestan which I  doing well on. However, I have many symptoms of Testosterone deficiency and wondered how and when to broach the subject with my GP. Do I have to play on the lack of sexual desire/enjoyment or can I tell my gp that I believe my overall health and well-being would benefit?
Also, being in the UK where we don’t have and female testosterone products, how difficult would it be for me to have testosterone prescribed off licence?
Many thanks in advance  :)

Hi some GPs will prescribe testosterone and some won’t. It’s prescribed off licence for women so GPs can refuse. x

Only mention the libido as that’s the only thing they think it’s useful for! x

That’s as I thought Marchlove.
It’s awful though isn’t it that it will only be prescribed for loss of libido, it makes me feel that it’s tailored more towards conjugal rights perhaps not being available to the other half of a relationship rather than the needs of the menopausal woman. It’s a sad state of affairs x

Very very sad indeed, I sometimes think we’re still living in the dark ages
