Breast screening-re-call
« on: October 09, 2021, 02:28:16 PM »

Hello me again, if it’s not one thing it’s another, just got a letter to go back and have more tests after my mammogram last week, apparently 4 in every 100 women get recalled and most don’t have breast cancer, but of course I’m still panicking it says the tests could take between 2-4 hours.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice would be greatly received.

As if ms isn’t enough!

Many thanks

I was recalled because of a lump. Turned out to be a cyst. Of course I was convinced it was cancer and spent 2 weeks panicking. I don't have a leg to stand on when I tell you not to panic as that's exactly what I did but I did feel a bit foolish after the initial relief.

I was recalled time before last, needless to say, I gave myself roughly a day to live,it was actually that the mammography picture wasn't clear enough to be examined properly, there are so so many reasons to be recalled, how long have you to wait,do you know?

I’ve been recalled twice, once for breast tissue change and once for a cyst, which a biopsy was taken. The first time my appointment didn’t arrive until the day before, so not much time to panic, second time I felt ‘whatever’. I had two breast cancer scares when I was younger, which was much more worrying. Again breast tissue change and later a cyst.

After my first screening I was recalled and the second exam showed the same shadow on one breast. They wanted to do a biopsy but couldnt locate where to do it and in the end suggested I have an MRI instead. That came back clear. For me, they said I was just made like that, but because it was my first one they had nothing to compare it with. BTW does anyone know how often do you have the screening?

Shrosphirelass it’s every two years in Australia. I’ve got appointment on Tuesday for ultrasound on my breast which I have every year and mammogram every second year.

The joys of having dense breast and lumps, being doing this since age 40. And at $270 for a ultrasound and over $500 for ultrasound and mammogram it’s not cheap, but the free government one is crap.

I have had to do a repeat mammogram, but because I pay money to do this and not a free government one. They won’t let me go until the specialist doctor has approved the image. They weren’t happy with it within 10 minutes and had me do a repeat mammogram.

I know it easier said then done but try not to worry

Thank you ladies

These comments have made me feel a whole lot better about the whole thing,so I’m going to take your advise and try not to worry!

It’s every 3 years here in the uk if your over 50 I believe

I am wondering if it could be anything to do with a type of wart I have on my breast, which I already have had checked out at the hospital maybe it looks sinister on the mamagram pictures.

It says in my letter appointment could take between 2-4 hours, I guess that’s incase they have to take a biopsy or similar unless that’s just standard on all appointments.

My appointment is on 18th of this month, I’ll keep you posted  as to how I get on.

Many thanks for everyone taking the time to reply.

No, until you are over 70 you have to ask, which I will. I’m in my late 60s and am called up every 3 years and have one more to go before I have to ask.

It must be old age, I simply can't remember - I did go to one of those mobile clinic vans.
