HRT increase
« on: August 13, 2021, 07:52:16 AM »

Hello,

I am 48 years old and I had a total hysterectomy 2.5 years ago and have been on Estradot HRT patches since then.  They’ve gradually increased from 25mcg and for the last year I’ve been on 100mcg.

Over the last couple months I’ve been suffering with headaches and mood swings, in fact very low mood.  I was convinced my HRT needed another review and when I spoke to the doctor she told me I couldn’t have anymore because I was on the maximum dose.

Now I am wondering if this is just because Estradot only goes up to 100mcg patches or if I really am on the maximum dose of any form of HRT.  I was sure that at the start of this I’d seen information on cutting patches, or wearing a mixture of say a 100 and a 25 mcg or even using cream to “supplement” the patch.

By the way I don’t think Estradot can be cut but am willing to change brand to be able to feel myself again!

Any knowledge/advice anyone has on this would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Hi there I was hoping to get an increase in estradot too but waiting on clinic appointment. I have cut patches before but it's very fiddly. I was tempted a few months ago when I had a spell of headaches. Now settled GP told me to take brufen. But increased sweats again. Can't believe we can't have more. I still have left over 25mcg patches. Maybe it's the balance between progesterone and oestrogen? I also heard too much oestrogen can give you migraine.  Anyone got any suggestions
Thanks

It seems most GPS will give you 100mg max but many specialists can prescribe more. I was told by a specialist up to 6 pumps gel (150mg) though I haven't needed more than 4. You could ask for a referral to a menopause clinic. They could prescribe a pump of gel alongside the patch.

There is no maximum dose it’s whatever treats the symptoms and we all absorb differently.
