Has anyone tried varying their HRT dose across the month?
« on: July 09, 2021, 04:38:48 PM »

I've been on two sprays of Lenzetto for 3 months now and while it has massively sorted out the debilitating problems I was getting from day 14-day 28 (night sweats, anxiety and insomnia) I've found that each cycle when I get towards ovulation (or maybe at ovulation itself) I feel completely hyper. It's hard to describe but super charged, amped up and almost high. Which wouldn't be a problem in itself except about a couple of days after i notice this feeling I then start to have really bad insomnia for about 3 or 4 nights until just after ovulation when I'm fine again.

Before starting HRT I never had any problems during the first half of my cycle, it was always just like clockwork from day 14 to day 28. I'm wondering if perhaps my HRT dose is too high for the first half of my cycle and I'm considering changing it to 1 spray from days 1-14 and then 2 sprays from day 14-28. Has anyone tried a varied dose of HRT? It would be syncing it up with my normal cycle so in theory should be ok, but would be interested to hear if anyone has tried anything like this  :D

Hi, I’ve been waiting for someone to post this question.  I have been ‘experimenting’ with varying the dose of my estrogen replacement during the month.  I feel better for it.  I am not a specialist, but only know that in my pre-menopausal decades, my body produced sex hormones in a cyclical and not a steady manner, and my body tissues would have been receiving hormones in this manner.  I also read about estrogen downregulating after a steady high supply and hence a study suggested interrupted progesterone replacement to prevent this.  I wish I could understand these things better.  For now, all I can tell from experience is that a constant dose of HRT was problematic for me.  There were days when I felt I was overdosing and days when I was underdosing.  I am now trying to vary the dosing throughout the month, and so far feel better.  I hope I am not doing the wrong thing :/

Peri is difficult. Because of your own peaks and troughs you're guaranteed to be on too much or too little at some point. The only consolation is that it does get easier to manage as you head towards meno. I tried increasing it when I was on utro as it felt as though I needed more to counteract the utro side effects. It didn't work for me. Your case is different though as it would seem that you're on too much when your own levels are high. If it was me I would reduce it during this phase and see what happens (but I'm not a doctor so this is what I'd do not a recommendation).

Thank you Sheila and Bumblebeer, I really appreciate the answers.

Bumble, my thought process was the same as yours - I am perimenopausal and still having regular periods so my natural hormones would not be flat across the month. I know my own natural estrogen will still be fluctuating underneath the HRT but I would like to try varying the HRT also to try slightly to sync it up a bit. I definitely feel that at certain parts in my cycle (ie. the couple of days before ovulation and at ovulation) it is too high; I feel manic. Once I get into the second half of my cycle it seems to ebb.

I can't see that there would be any clinical reason why this could be a bad idea - it's not like Progesterone where you need a certain amount for a health reason. Although obviously I'm not a doctor! I guess I'll try it next cycle and see how I go.

Sheila, you're so right about Peri! It feels like I address one issue only to create another! Thanks for the reassuring words - being "only" 42 I feel a bit like I've got a mountain ahead of me, but perhaps because it started early for me it will also end early - here's hoping!

Thanks again for your replies x
