Really upset
« on: June 08, 2021, 07:02:36 PM »

Hello everyone,
I am new here/I had a hysterectomy and my ovaries removed aged 36. My GP refused HRT as I had Lupus and he said there was a danger of clotting. I have never had it since. I am now 60 and have osteoporosis and a heat attack. My heart surgeon says if I do not want another heart attack I must have HRT and also for my bones. Again, my GP refuses. This not the same GP all the time, I have moved surgeries 4 times but get no where. I really want HRT , what can I do? I feel so depressed . Many thanks for listening.

Hello annD and welcome to the forum.

I am so sorry that you have suffered so much.

It is beyond belief that your GPs are refusing to give you the right treatment. Perhaps contact your heart surgeon and ask him or her to instruct your GP directly. The alternative is to approach an NHS or private menopause clinic and let them liaise with your surgery.

I am sure that other ladies will be along to advise you and in the meantime sending hugs.

Take care.

Your GP/s have been negligent in not getting U the best treatment possible.  Who diagnosed Lupus?  R U followed on a regular basis?

Does your heart surgeon know that your GP/s refuse treatment that would be of overall benefit?

Get thyself to a menopause clinic, or mayB send a PM to Dr Currie who started this Forum - there is a charge for a single question.

36 would be considered quite 'early' menopause so U should have been followed up carefully.

I’m really sorry to hear this, that was very young to lose ovaries, I don’t understand why you weren’t given it, was there a medical reason then why you weren’t put on it ?

The mention of  hysterectomy and removal of ovaries send chills through me, my bowel perforated snd I’ve been ill ever since but I was 55 , I’m now 60.  I do wonder how many of my symptoms are down to removal of ovaries but no one will give me hrt.  It’s as if because I survived the horrors of what happened I should just put up with everything else ☹️

Hope you find some answers soon

Hi,

how awful for you. I would first of all if you can afford it, or from the Doctor/ specialist  who recomended HRT to you get some expert advice.

It is all about risk and benefit.
Gp's are not experts in HRT and therfore you need someone who is. There are risks/ side effects  in all medication . And if you are well informed  it is you who make the choice!  I think that you need to either be referred to a menopause clinic or go privately to a specialist that can help. Loiuse Newson's clinic is supposed to be excellent .
I am not a medical expert , so you need a clear explanation and advice from someone who is very well versed in HRT . I have found this on Loiuse Newson's website and it mentions LUPUS

https://d2931px9t312xa.cloudfront.net/menopausedoctor/files/information/592/Menopause%20and%20Clots%20FINAL%20with%20links.pdf

I would also look at getting some councelling, these days you can self refer, and talking it through with someone is always a sensible thing to do.
Also looking at life style chages and there is a study that shows that eating 5 prunes a day improves bone density. ( every little helps. Also look at getting some small hand weights and get a referal to your physio or health club, GP's can refer for exercise on presciption ( that hopefully should still be going on now restrictions have lifted ) for your heart and bones.

Also if you have a male partner / friend take him with you to appoitments as statistically it shows that doctors respond more favourably when men are present .

Let us kow how you get on.

It seems hrt is contraindicated for lupus so the gps may just be following guidelines. I think you need specialist advice but that can be problematic where there are two specialities involved. I would try a lupus specialist and/support group, I'm sure there are other women in your situation. Or see if you can find a meno specialist who has experience of lupus.

Ann D, What specific aspects of Lupus are they concerned about? Only clotting? You could have a blood test done to have your clotting responses checked and take it from there? Many conditions have aspects which ring alarm bells in outdated thinking!

How frustrating for you. If I don't get anywhere with my Dr I go private, it doesn't cost too much and they listen to you. There are also specialist menopause clinics.

I was in excruciating pain, countless visits to my GP for over a year got me nowhere. Then I decided to go private and had blood tests scans etc. It was the scan I had that picked up my gallstones. I was one of the rare ones with left sided gallstone pain.  :-\  so bad I was passing out ! I also had them test me for Lupus as have lot's of symptoms, had a positive for Strojens, but 2nd test was negative, so no further action taken. 😐

Have a look on Google at private Drs near you, some Drs work for the NHS and have private practices. It doesn't cost as much as you think. I saved up for mine, single parent to 3 children, I have very little money, but I'm so glad I managed to do it.
