Hi Itwillpass.... I started on Kliovance and quickly moved to Elleste Duet Conti. These did nothing for me. I then went onto Oestrogel and Utrogestan and Testogel. I then began to improve. It took a while but gradually the symptoms went. I started with symptoms when I was 47 and was misdiagnosed for years . I was told I’d got CFS / ME. Finally at the age of 54 I realised that all of my symptoms were in fact due to oestrogen deficiency. It took a private consultation to get me on the right treatment. x

Dotty it’s so frustrating that’s there’s no test possible to say it hormones! My gp had mentioned CFS to me but I’m praying it is peri menopause & nothing more serious, this is where my health anxiety kicks in. How awful that you suffered for so long  :'( I’m 46 now & been struggling for 18 months. So pleased you are feeling better now give me hope x

DeeMarie....I had lots of horrendous symptoms and I felt very ill.

Symptoms were... hot and cold flushes; night sweats; insomnia;  anxiety; muscle pain; nausea; lack of appetite; total exhaustion ; heart palpitations ; an internal shaking; dizziness; headaches; episodes of crying; lack of concentration .

It was awful , but once I was on the correct type and dose of HRT the symptoms disappeared . x
Pretty similar to mine 🙁 they tested for everything apart from hormones, I know they can be inaccurate but still. Reassuring to know they all came back good. Will see how things go over the next few weeks.

Can totally sympathise with the health anxiety! You’re right so frustrating they can’t test for it, it’s the not knowing eh. Hope you feel better soon too x

I had awful nausea (along with other symptoms) but this has really improved since being on HRT. I couldn't go anywhere without ginger oat cakes and lemon sweets to keep it at bay. I haven't had a ginger oat cake in over 2 years so the HRT must be doing something!
What other symptoms did you have?

Mainly hormonal headaches that were very debilitating. They are much improved since going on a conti regimne now that I don't get as many hormonal fluctuations. I also had stomach issues which again are improved but I still have to be really careful about what I eat and the quantity.

Recently I have started to get a lot of hot flashes but no return of other symptoms. It may be that I am finally menopausal and my estrogen levels have dropped further. My GP wont prescribe maore than the basic dose so I'm hoping that it will settle. I also have ongoing bleeding issues so I may have to change my HRT regime.

Before HRT I had ongoing lower belly pain and discomfort accompanied by nausea. I had a CT colonoscopy which came back clear. I now get the odd flare up which can be triggered by having a large meal or eating a higher fat meal than usual. Sometimes it seems random. It's not too bad mostly. The biggest issue is that I keep losing weight which is probably because I am careful about what I eat. I have gone from 9 stone 2lb to 7 stone 8 over a 2 year period and still seem to be losing weight, though very gradually.

I was treated for h pylori a few years back and thought this was the cause again but that came back clear too but the last few months the sweats are worse just don’t feel me. Have they said anything about the cause of the weight loss?

Hi DeeMarie

Like Dotty and Shropshirelass, nausea was very much present when I started on my perimenopause, and got worse as my oestrogen levels dropped. I also had crippling headaches, sometimes 20-25 days a month, where I had to alternate paracetamol/ibuprofen to get relief, and anti-nausea meds. When I finally got started on HRT this improved things for a couple of months (probably because I was feeling SO bad) but once my hormone levels regulated it was evident I needed more. For the last year I have been on a medium dose and symptoms are very much better.

I have recently changed to Evorel Sequi and after a wobbly start, now on month 4 and things are good. I agree, it did feel like hormonal nausea, (i've not had babies so can only imagine what morning sickness must be like). Some days I was off certain foods/drinks. On HRT I do still get the odd day where I feel off.

What I find helps is eating little and often, slow-release/protein rather than sugary things that my body uses up too fast. Exercise helped me too, it stimulates my appetite and getting out in the fresh air is good.

Really hope you feel better soon x

Thank you! Just take bad feeling like this. I have 3 kids but didn’t have any morning sickness, now I know what this must feel like for many women 😢 I feel like my appetite is up and down and gone off/or struggle with certain foods now. I get plenty exercise as I walk about 7 miles 5 times a week and it’s good for the mind too. Definitely looks like the hrt route x

The dr doesn't seem to be concerned as my BMI is just about at the lower end of normal. Also blood tests are mostly ok. It means I get to eat cake and icecream as I try and up my calories without causing any ill effects.

Hi DeeMarie, I had nausea, usually in the morning and accompanied by a headache, and this was one of the first symptoms to go when I started Oestrogel and utrogestan.

It's not one of the symptoms most GPs would recognise as peri though.

Hello ladies.

I also had headaches and nausea though I never had morning sickness during either of my pregnancies.
These symptoms occurred fairly early in my meno journey and resolved on their own. It was later, when I had developed anxiety and internal shaking that I asked to try HRT.

Take care everyone.

Hi Somo I think that’s why it was dismissed when I mentioned nausea but I’ve heard of many women suffer from it ☹️
