Advanced Fitness/Bodybuilding on HRT
« on: April 06, 2021, 12:43:28 PM »

I'm in my first few weeks of HRT (Evorel Sequi) and I'm concerned about how it might affect my strength training and HIIT workouts. Fitness is very important to me - it keeps me sane and I love feeling strong and seeing my muscles grow. Any other ladies here into gym/workouts on HRT? Has it affected your training?

Someone said I should look into adding testosterone to the ES patches to make sure I can still train hard, wondering whether to speak to my GP about that?

Definitely not into gym workouts, I have enough of that shovelling sh*t and lugging bags of corn. I suffered repeated pulled muscles in peri which has stopped now I'm on testosterone. They will only provide it for low libido though (mine was zero) and you need to go to a specialist.

thanks sheila99 - good to hear from someone who's doing well on HRT. Are GPs not able to prescribe testosterone, or just reluctant?

It's a beurocracratic problem because there isn't a product that's licensed for women in the UK. If a gp prescribes it they're responsible if anything goes wrong but you can ask for a referral to an NHS menopause clinic. You need to be stable on hrt before you can have testosterone.

@pineappletop
I  only got into fitness in the last year since we went into lockdown, but in all honesty HRT has given me energy. I've managed to keep up the training at home using hand weights, bars and resistance bands, but looking forward to Monday when the gyms reopen so I can get in and set some new goals.

I'm on a sequi regime (Evorel sequi too at the mo although for how long I don't know) and had Femoston 2/10 tablets all last year.

Obviously the intensity of the training is a very personal thing and due to me being an exercise newcomer I have nothing other than sitting on the sofa to compare to lol. I bet you'll be fine :)

Hi pineappletop
I’ve been on HRT for nine months now, and have today just started Evorel patches (previously was on Femeston 1/10) I am a runner and have been so for 5 years. I’m currently training for my first marathon and haven’t noticed anything other than lots of great energy. I started running to avoid weight gain with the menopause and so far it has worked. Good luck 🤞
