Permenopause.... loss of appetite? X
« on: January 24, 2021, 06:39:05 PM »

Hello again! Sorry, I seem to be on here most of the time recently 😮

I am just wondering, is loss of appetite or not knowing what food to have is a strange symptom of perimenopause? I've been like this on and off for about 2 years now since this all started.  I know it can be a symptom of low mood and anxiety which I am suffering from at the moment, but wondering if it is a symptom by itself, as if I'm not bad mentally, I can have this? This is adding to my anxiety 🙄

Any advice gratefully received xx😚

I totally lost my appetite at the beginning of all this peri hell. It coincided with me feeling nauseous avd dizzy. Lost lots of weight.

I've been trying different combined pills for a year abd some start up symptoms mimic my early symptoms (so I'm now guessing too much estrogen) and the loss of appetite arrives again....

Hope this helps. X

Your twin again! Yes it’s horrid I’m literally force feeding myself (last 7months) have lost 3 kilos in this time not much but I’m only 5 foot & very petite already. Even certain smells can make me feel nauseous & even hubby talking about food!

I lost so much weight in the early days but once HRT kicked in I was fine! Other symptoms not great but at least I can eat 🐷

Hormones.  When I took The Pill I could smell garbage.  Nothing nice at all.  Like my nose was full of old dustbin contents  >:(

When I had tamoxifen my sense of smell/taste became acute.  I went off food very quickly.  DH made a Dundee Cake: it was in a tin with the lid on in a cupboard with the door shut but I could smell the half tablespoon of cold water every time I walked by the pantry.  When he cooked pork chops even though I wasn't in the house, the thought recalled the smell and I felt very ill.

The gut is the 2nd brain.  It is my weak point.  When anxiety hits my sense of smell becomes acute - I can't look at a food advert without feeling sick  :-\ :-X

I have always had fads.  I will eat cheese for lunch for months then suddenly, can't bear the thought of it.  Same with pizza.  Same with curry ...... even chocolate - I will eat flake for example ten can't face another one  :o

Hi yes I had this, had to force myself to eat as I felt so unwell most of the time and so exhausted. Very unlike me ! It got better when I started HRT patches.

Also some ladies report a change of taste and smell which we rely on to encourage us to eat.

How about bananas in custard sheila?  Something filling.  With a flake sprinkled on top ;-)

There's a blast from the past, I haven't had bananas in custard since school pudding days. I'll take the flake though.
Have you been wearing those rose tinted spectacles again Unicorn?? 24 still to lamb in this batch, I'll send them your way... I love it too once the pain has faded a bit - sometime in July usually! It's so much better now we do indoors though, trying to catch something that's lambing at 3am in a blizzard isn't my idea of fun.
