Ovestin use after vaginal total hysterectomy?
« on: November 20, 2020, 07:36:00 PM »

I forgot to ask my consultant but should I continue with the ovestin internally after a vaginal hysterectomy and prolapse repair? It was 6 days ago and i haven’t used it yet but I would say I am def getting some of the old symptoms returning.  But I have stitches and wounds in the area and I’m concerned about introducing infection? I am continuing with the estrogen and testogel, and I did have my ovaries removed as well.

Anyone else been through this? I can ask Monday but it just occurred to me.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy plus anterior repair for prolapse and was advised not to use vagifem until at least six weeks after while the internal vaginal wound healed. This was six years ago though so advice may have changed. I hope you are resting loads as this will make a lot of difference re the prolapse repair. Too much too soon and it could fail. You really do have to follow advice to the letter. I hope you are feeling well after such a major op.  :)

Thanks Taz. I’m trying, certainly been taken aback by how major an op it has been - one week in I tried a very very slow walk to the end of our road. But it was too much and I’ve been laid up the rest of the day.

I ended up using the ovestin externally last night and it did seem to still reduce the irritation. Wearing pads isn’t helping with that either of course.

Somewhere I've got the plan my consultant gave me to follow as to when to start walking again etc. I didn't make a cuppa using the kettle for four weeks. This was more for the prolapse repair rather than the hysterectomy part If I can find it I'll post it on here. I think the first walk was week 3. It depends on whether you have someone at home to care for you though. Take care.
