Feeling really low
« on: October 01, 2020, 06:35:40 AM »

7 days into norethisterone and still spotting. My mood has dropped.  I'm on 14 days quarantine due to a family member testing positive with Covid. Because of my circumstances my GP was just clinical about it and suggested carrying on with the norestitherone until I have the scan, or stopping after 10 days and "riding it out" (if I flood again) while I'm home. Except I hopefully won't be home by then. I'll be back at work. No interest in my mood,  my iron levels , wellbeing or anything (good job I do my best to address all those things myself). I feel as if my family just think I'm a pain. No one seems to understand how draining it is. I've worked throughout the pandemic. I've kept my spirits up. I reach out for advice here and get few, if any, responses. I just feel I'm permanently flying under the radar.

Hi pricey

Sorry to hear you are feeling low - in fact I have just replied to your other post. I think maybe your query is quite specialised hence the lack of replies - and many of the regulars seem busy - I have hardly been on the forum recently but when I come on I try to look at the posts with no replies first!

Also sorry to hear about the quarantine necessary and hope your family member is not too ill?

If you are worried about your iron levels then why not take an iron tonic eg Floradix liquid which is what I have  actually haven't taken any for several months) but the odd spoonful now and again would top you up and won't do you any harm if you think you might be a bit low. It's not good to take too much iron if not actually deficient.

Is there anything you can do to help keep your spirits up generally - like listening to music, chatting with friends etc? I know it's difficult right now for many people and especially not being able to make plans. Sorry to hear you feel your family don't understand - but perhaps they do? You need to tell them - even if not all the time - that if you are grumpy or low, the reason why - depending on who they are, maybe not the bleeding (ie children!) - although  a partner will know anyway.

All the best and maybe start a thread in the private lives section if you are feeling low generally and you will be sure of some support there?

Thanks so much, Hurdity. I was feeling sorry for myself this morning  I'm pretty good at self care: I exercise,  meditate, enjoy walking, etc. I really think it's the chemical effect of the norestitherone.
I'm topping up with spatone (my levels are historically poor).

My family member is asymptomatic thankfully. I don't have a date for the scan as yet. I suppose my worry is if I stop the norestitherone I will have another bleed and I dread it being like the last one. The spotting is negligible today so I'm thinking perhaps I'll have more respite this way. But then I feel lousy on the norestitherone. I was concerned that the bleeding hadn't stopped within 2-3 days as it states is usually the case on the patient information leaflet. But then I'm also aware a side effect can be spotting. I feel like I'm in a catch 22 situation..I've read lots of reports of women bleeding heavily when they stop norestitherone so  I'm convinced this will be the case for me. I can't imagine how I would make so much lining again though in such a short time! A few people have said they felt a course of norestitherone reset them.

I'm 55, by the way. Still peri...some months I had only the withdrawal bleed from HRT,  but often I would get a bleed of my own too. My cycle has been pretty persistent apart from when I took Elleste Duet to begin with. It seemed the norestitherone in that controlled my cycle  but made me feel lousy for 2 weeks of every month. Oesrogel and utrogestan suited for a while then I started to get very sore breasts and spotting. As it was during lockdown I reduced the Oestrogel and that seemed to resolve for 3 months then the pattern repeated. It felt like I had had an oestrogen surge, so I weaned off and then stopped. I used the utrogestan religiously until that last month when I had spotted most days and only used a dot of oestrogel. I started a normal bleed a few days after quitting completely and thought I had cracked it! But the intermittent spotting and then extremely heavy period followed. I'm a mess!

Thanks for taking so much time with me. X

OH dear it's so difficult when you are peri still to know what's going on. If you've been taking the norethisterone for a while then if you stopped you shouldn't get a big bleed but depends how thick the lining had got. It's a toss up isn't it between the big bleeds or feeling lousy on the norethisterone. At least hopefully the scan will tell you if all is well?

It does sound like you need to reset. That dose of norethisterone you mentioned in your last thread sounds like the dose that should stop the bleeding eventually yes. Could you wean off it gradually and see what happens?

Sorry I can't really be of more help!
