Scan and biopsy
« on: April 23, 2020, 07:26:54 AM »

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked.

Started my journey late 2016, tried patches etc. Then found Tibolone was on the glenmark brand which suddenly last year suddenly became unavailable so tried Aristo.

Last Feb 2019 I had a heavy bleed resulting in me collapsing at work. Had tests nothing abnormal thankfully. Had a low pain in my stomach constantly however work and life got in the way, anyway went back to gp who organised a scan last October 2019, showed small polyps, had a camera in December he told me he couldn't see anything. I questioned him as the scan showed something.
Was sent away.

Last week I had a bleed and now having a scan & biopsy Friday.
Different consultant and different hospital. She's mentioned me stopping the Tibolone and having a marina coil and oestrogen tablets.
Other than the two bleeds in 14 months everything is fine.

I feel " normal " on Tibolone... I'm reticent on the Marina coil as I tried it years ago and just bled out for three months.

What's your thoughts...
I'm anxious as the Tibolone seems to work for me in all areas other than these two bleeds.

Thank you in advance

If I felt well I would be reluctant to alter anything.  Ask why she thinks it necessary and dependant on the scan.  Explain how the Mirena affected you previously.

Thank you..

She said because I'd had two bleeds in six months, so had to correct her and said 14 months...
Told her about the coil situation on the phone yesterday... 🙈
She thinks it's the HRT...

I'm seeing her tomorrow and really dont want to change the hrt...

I would wait for the results before you make any decisions, what they do or don't find might influence it. Was anyone able to explain why mirena made you bleed last time? I think I'd want to know before trying again. Perhaps ask to speak to a menopause specialist.

Hi MsCarolinekarma

 :welcomemm:

Sorry to hear about the bleeds but good you are having another scan and biopsy. It is not normal to bleed when you are post-menopausal which i presume you knew you were when you started the Tibolone (or HRT generally) ie no natural periods for 12 months minimum? You haven't said how old you are but if you not post-meno then you might have ovulated as Tibolone is meant for post-menopause? Also one of the effects of Tibolone can be thickening of the uterus lining and also if they have found polyps this is another reason. At any point have they told you what thickness the lining is? This can also cause bleeding if it is overthickened even in the absence of obvious abnormailites.

Anyway at least you're in the right hands and hopefully you will get an answer soon.

It is normal to bleed when the mirena first goes in. If you are not post-menopause then it can stop periods but if they were very heavy it can reduce them considerably. If you are post-menopausal and if you are using oestrogen as well there can be bleeding for 6 months sometimes longer before it settles down into a no-bleed regime.

If it turns out Tibolone is the cause of the bleeds then unfortunately I presume it will be suggested you try something else and it is a question of trial and error to see how you get on with the different types.

All the best and let us know the outcome of your scan etc?
