I was about 42 when I went through the menopause, I am 50 this year.
I didn't have any hrt because apart from some mood swings I pretty much didn't have any problems
Just under 2 years ago I had a dexa scan for back ache which showed that I had osteopenia (-1.7) in spine - hips normal.
My Dr told me to take vit d and calcium and have another dexa in 3 years.
Since then I have done lots of research and realised that I should have done hrt to protect my bones, but at the time I didn't know the connection between menopause and osteoporosis.
I have always walked, and now take lots of bone vitamins and because I was so worried about the osteoporosis I have been back to my drs twice and saw 2 different drs both who have refused to prescribe hrt (according to nice guidelines I was too old at 42)
But it still weighs heavily on my mind.
My drs won't prescribe it, I think I need it, I know I can purchase it online. I spoke to the ros who basically told me to go private.
I have read hrt is good even years after menopause for bones and I have got to the stage where drs won't help me - to take matters into my own hands which I probably should have done 2 years ago.
I'm not really looking for advice just comments from others in a similar position that have done the same as me
