Worried about bleeding
« on: February 06, 2020, 07:41:09 AM »

Sorry to have to.post again about this but having started with a very little brownish blood 6 days ago which lasted for a few days. I then thought it had stopped but yesterday and last night had really heavy bleeding. I know some bleeding is normal but does that include heavy and a lot of it?
I'm not sure whether I should continue with the gel and utrogestan because of this. I dont really want to have to stop as it's only been a few weeks. I also had been taking the utrogestan vaginally which I prefer but far too messy to do this now. I did really want to give hrt a good go and so am.loathe to give up as am feeling some benefits. I'm not sure what to do -  I'm a bit wary of talking to gp as she might say stop. Any advice appreciated.

As Dotty said - however it is very heavy, even though you have only just started HRT and some bleeding is to be expected I would just check with the doctor, given your age? It should not mean you have to stop but perhaps you would benefit from some specialist input. Your doc should recognise that if you are over 60 closer monitoring might be needed?

Normal size sanitary towels being soaked through and having to change frequently. This morning soaking through to underwear as well.Blood is now bright red, some clots. Also constant cramp like pains. Similar to when I used to have periods.

I lowered my oestrogel recently and bled heavily for about a week and I 've bern on HRT for almost two years.
If you are concerned speak to your doc, as Hurdity suggested, to put your mind at rest.

I will speak to my GP but my concern is that she isn't a specialist in this area. I was surprised she prescribed it for me actually!

[/quote]  That does sound a lot. I have been using Lilets normal/standard tampons and each one is only a quarter to half 'used' after several hours. I do also have the cramp pains but the level fluctuates a lot.

Your GP will send you for a scan. Mine did and many others in this forum with the same experience get checked out as a precaution. 🙂
A scan and then maybe a hysteroscopy.  I have had the scan and  have the hysteroscopy next Monday.

Yeah I had one too. Hysteroscopy can be painful Katejo in case you don't know. I eventually had a general anaesthetic for mine.
Yes I know but different people seem to have widely different experiences. I found this when I had an endoscopy. I didn't even have a local anaesthetic for that but many people have a GA. I had a bad reaction to the last GA so want to avoid it. I also don't have someone to stay with me overnight afterwards.

For this one I am having the local and will be taking ibuprofen and paracetamol a couple of hours before (an probably I will do ibuprofen in the morning and the previous evening too.

Hi Birdy
Did you continue with the hrt while you were bleeding? I'm not sure whether to wait until it's over or carry on? I can t speak.to my GP until Friday.

I am definitely continuing. Someone gave me a tip to say that she changed her tablet regime so she took them exactly 3.5 days apart instead of 3 days then 4 days. I am trying that now but it is too early to say. I only started a week ago.

I had no idea you see. I went in quite oblivious to the potential pain. And when they asked me if I wanted my OH to hold my hand and offered me gas and air I was shocked. I stopped it half way through and they booked me in for a fortnight later. I hope yours goes well and you don't feel a thing.
So you didn't take any paracetamol or ibuprofen earlier in the day? I have been advised to take both a couple of hours before. I think I will take ibuprofen during the preceding 24 hours for the cumulative benefit.

Yes I did but I am on a continuous regime and post meno.
The bleeding was a reaction to my change in dose. Are you talking about the utro or utro and your oestrogen. I wouldn't stop! Carry on as normal.

I was talking about both. I am also 5/6 years post meno and on the continuous regime but only been on it just over 3 weeks so at a loss as to what's going on ie if it's too much utrogestan or too little or too much oestrogel or not enough or just because I've just started or my age!

Mintea - I'm just logging off now as busy but just wanted to reiterate if your bleeding is that heavy then please go to the doctor and push for a scan. Heavy bleeding and clots (if it's like a normal heavyperiod - should not be expected within 3 weeks of starting low dose HRT of one pump oestrogel I wouldn't have thought and especially if you are 5 or 6 years post-menopause and are also taking progesterone. It maybe that you have a fibroid although it would be surprising for it to bleed so quickly. It could be that you have continued to produce higher oestrogen than expected post-menopause, to which your womb has responded rather than become atophic which I gather happens as we age? It may be absolutely fine -  and just as already said by others,  due to starting oestrogen after so long, but it is the very heavy bleeding and clotting which just needs a check over. As long as you are looked at soon I wouldn't have thought you need to stop HRT pending investigation but you need to take medical advce on this. Sorry this is in a hurry. All thebest
