Hi Mintea,

I am taking Estrogel 4 pumps daily and 100mg utrogestan continuously.  I have been on this regime for just over a year, I started on 2 pumps of the gel but my oestrogen levels were too low so had to up the dose. I still have bleeding approx every 3/4 weeks for a couple of days. I had a scan to check my endometrium in June and my lining was fine. My menopause GP wanted me to try mirena coil but I don't fancy that option.  It's so strange because I always had very light periods so thought I would be fine.

Out of interest were you given a measurement of your lining from the scan? Was it under 5mm? Thanks

hi KateJo,

My scan in June was 4mm and a small fibroid. I had another scan today as I was struggling a bit mood wise so I was told to stop utrogestan for 5 weeks to see how I got on.  She just asked me to get another scan after that to check lining.  The lining today was still 4mm and no sign of fibroid this time and she gave me a good check.

I currently have light bleeding once a month on the dot which lasts 3-4 days. I am having a hysteroscopy on monday which I don't want. I got a phone call from the hospital yesterday to confirm the appointment so I took the chance to grumble that no one had replied to my letter in which I asked several questions and put arguments against having it now. I wanted to postpone it 2-3 months to see if the bleeding stopped naturally (and hopefully no longer need it). The consultant claimed that 5 mm was too much (even when using HRT) and said  that the layer shouldn't be more than 2-3mm. That sounds low to me. I am only 7 months into using full patches.

Hi Katejo,

I can understand you not wanting to have Hysteroscopy, although to be fair I haven't had one.  All I can say is the first scan was in my local Bupa hospital and the consultant was happy with 4mm and just described it as unremarkable.  Today it was in a different clinic by a specialist nurse and she said it was absolutely fine too with 4mm.  Could you get a second opinion?  I thought it would be so straightforward going on HRT! All my symptoms have gone, its just the bleeding and like yourself it's very light and watery.  Im not sure if using the dose is prolonging the bleeding.  I started on two pumps gel form Dec 2018 until April 2019 when I increased to three and then increased to four pumps in November 2019.

I haven't got time to get another opinion now.  I think that 4 mm would have been ok just about but anything over 4.5mm sounds warning bells. If i cancel Monday's appt., I think it would be a long wait  for another one. I want to get it out of the way. While I am still waiting for this, I can't book any holidays due to having pending tests (due to insurance). I am just hoping that, on monday, my layer will be too thin to take a biopsy so I won't have to wait weeks for a reply. I have heard that it can take 6 weeks.

I'm sure all will be fine and will be worth getting it checked out.  They may scan you and be happy with what they see and won't require further investigation.
Let us know how you get on and try and have a nice relaxing bath over the weekend x
