Estradot Patch shortage
« on: November 02, 2019, 01:51:49 PM »

Hi Ladies hope you're all well?

I have just discovered this morning that Estradot patches are now unavailable and are in shortage, and have no availability date on computer systems in chemists. Is anyone else having these issues?

Yes, Estradot has been unavailable since mid September from Boots and Lloyds pharmacies.

Don't worry Shell - you should be  able to get Estraderm - they are massive and take some getting used to but I happily switched from Estradot to them a couple of months ago so you may be OK too?

Hi JP,

Ive not had any issues up until now with getting my prescription.
This is devastating for me, ive already tried most other patches and the gel is also out of stock. Im only 37 and in surgical meno so not having HRT is not an option.

Hi Hurdity,

Ive tried Estraderm in the past, and really struggled with where to put them the 100 is huge!! And as my job is physical, and I regularly attend the gym they lasted less than 24hrs and im allergic to surgical tape/dressings.

Thanks for your advice

Hi Shell. I was on Estraderm and as my dose has increased, the patches kept getting bigger and bigger and not sticking. I was changed to Estradot ( which I should have been on anyway but I was given the cheaper Estraderm )
I didn't get on with the Estradot but they did stick so I was a bit concerned when they also became unavailable. I was then switched to Progynova and they are great. Only change once a week and they stick really well. The consultant I saw a couple of weeks ago did say that they may have a short term shortage of these but they should become available again soon. In the meantime, my pharmacist has managed to get a couple of packets for me 😀

Hi

Thats really helpful to know, I'll make this suggestion to my specialist next week, and hope I have the same luck. I like the idea of only once a week change too.
I have been looking for something new to try due to migranes on patch change days, so again this may be helpful.

I'm on the Everol patches (100) and they are out of stock, off to GP this week to try to find an alternative. I didn't find Estradot stuck well for me. Looks like Estraderm or Progynova. I've looked at the BMS update on HRT supply problems (https://thebms.org.uk/2019/09/british-menopause-society-further-update-on-hrt-supply-shortages-23rd-september-2019/) and its just crazy that so many preparations are out for so long....I'm worried that I won't find one that suits...

Hi Shell - oo-er - 100 mcg of Estraderm! I can see your dilemma - I mean the 75 mcg are pretty big so I imagine the 100 mcg are massive! It's interesting how we all very in the stickability of patches on our skin!

Good luck with finding an alternative until Estradot become available again locally to you.

Hi KatyB,

I know such worrying times, when doctors dont seem to know what is and isnt available and are just giving prescriptions for any old patches, as Hurdity says we are all so different in what suits/works for us. Lets hope this shortage is resolved sooner rather than later.

Last week I popped into our village practice to query the availability of Estradot 100 and was told there were none showing in stock at the wholesalers. I put in my repeat with some alternatives listed for the GP, dreading the prospect of Estraderm 100 as I use two patches at a time  :o. A few days later I rang and the wholesaler had suddenly received some Estradot so the dispenser managed to bag me 64 patches. She was of the view that some of the chemists were stockpiling...  ::).

Update- went to GP to get an alternative to 100mcg Everol, and he phoned local pharmacist and he said they had them in stock - whereas Boots wouldn't even take my prescription as they are showing as out of stock till mid 2020....Very worrying for all of us who have tried lots of alternatives to get one which suits us.....Incidentally, previously Everol were out of stock at this pharmacy, so there must be some supplies getting through from somewhere....
