Optimum Levels of Oestrogen on HRT
« on: August 23, 2019, 08:00:34 PM »

Does anybody know what the optimum levels of oestrogen should be when taking HRT?

I have been on the Prof Studd regime since Christmas, two pumps of estrogel just increased to three, Utrogestan 100mg every night, Tostran two pumps each week.  It has been a bit of trial and error and I am due a blood test soon so just wondered what sort of oestrogen levels I should be expecting to see.

Hi wuzzie, that's an interesting question and I don't know the answer.

I also got the gel and ustro 100 ( 7 days a month ) prescription by private meno specialist, but the appointment was so quick. He just asked how long since last period and scribbled out that prescription. I had no blood tests to determine any levels, so that makes me question if they base anything on that?! Possibly we're all so different with estrogen levels etc and can maybe change daily, so difficult to determine. Seems to me it's more down to trial and error!?

I'm also very curious to know what the ingredients actually are in both these products. I was totally floored by the bad symptoms they gave me. They do say on packs, estradiol and progesterone, but i have no idea where these have come from exactly?! If anyone know?

Hi I've read on another forum that your oestrogen levels should be higher than 200 but not over 1000. This was from a reputable GP who specialises in menopause.

However we are all different and one lady may feel fine on s low level but another lady may need much higher levels.

Blood tests don't really help but may be useful of taken at intervals to see if you are absorbing the oestrogen.

Hope that helps xx

Thank you Westie! :)

I've just taken a look and entered in the search bar what is in utrogestan/ estrogel.

It says estrogel is MAINLY from the yam, a root vegetable, but it doesn't say what the other ingredients are?!

For utrogestan it says that it is derived from plants including yam, a root vegetable, but, again, doesn't say anything about what else it's made up of.

I did ask once, when I had a specialist appointment, but she said she thought it was plant based and didn't know what was in it.

I was just curious to know because of the side effects it gave me as some are not effected by the same side effects. I wondered if I could be allergic to something in it, but I can't find this information?

If anyone can find it, I'd be very interested. Thank you! :)

There is a site that breaks everything medicinal down into all ingredients as I used it to find which patches were yam and which soy and also the type of adhesion used as I'm allergic to plasters and sensitive to soy, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is called. If I come across it again I will let you know x

Wuzzie I hope you find out about the levels as it does seem to vary depending on who you ask x
