Poem of the day.
« on: February 08, 2019, 10:24:48 AM »

I thought it would be nice to have a poetry thread to ease are woes and inspire the day.  I expect everyone knows a poem or to and have some that cheer and sooth.

Here is a short one to help you start your day.

NEW EVERY MORNING

Every morning is a fresh beginning,

Listen my soul to the glad refrain.

And, spite of old sorrows

And older sinning,

Troubles forecasted

And possible pain,

Take heart with the day and begin again.

Never been into poetry but this one is from the film patch adams and made me cry,it's so beautiful
Sonnet 17
by Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.

I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you simply, without problems or pride:
I love you in this way
because I don't know any other way of loving
but this, in which there is no I nor you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep
it is your eyes that close

It gives me shivers,very unusual for a poem to do that.
Have you seen the film? Robin Williams reads it to his lost love and a cry every time I watch it.
Good thread shady

Just been posting on the Europe thread and remembered this one, which seem appropriate. :)

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

I can't be doing with poetry either, CLKD. But watching the rain pouring down outside reminded me of this one:

John had Great Big Waterproof Boots on;
John had a Great Big Waterproof Hat;
John had a Great Big Waterproof Mackintosh -
And that (Said John) Is That.

A A Milne.
(his are the only Pomes I can remember).

Sorry to lower the tone of your thread, Shadyglade.

Very fitting!   I will think of one to add later.
