Hi all,

Anyone else experience heart flutters, that feeling in your chest or throat which feels your heart has stopped and restarted?

So frightening 😢

Yep ,me !!! Infact on and off all day today. It sounds to me like you are describing benign ectopic beats, which I've had since my 30s. (now 50) They are often stimulated by a full stomach, indigestion or stress and anxiety, as the vagus nerve is near the stomach and holding it tightly can stimulate those flutters.  I even get them when I wear a tight belt round my middle, when at my worst. Once the vagus nerve is irritated it can take a while to settle down. The heart pattern (presuming you have no other heart condition that you are being treated for ?!) you describe is when you get one slow beat and then your heart has to do some quick ones to catch up. At my worst a few years ago I was getting runs of them, like 100s of times a day.

I've had a terrible cold all week, coughing a lot (use of diaphragm) and also been very stressed by some mid-cycle spotting. So, voila, they are terrible today.

Hi, I'm sitting here with some flutterings going on...of all my symptoms these are the worst.
I'm 64 and had my last period at 59 and have had the palpitations of and on for the last five years.
I've had the heart monitor on for 24 hrs, 48hrs, and 72 hrs and each time no palpitations have shown up.
I've also gone to A&E during the night when they've been bad and my hearts been racing and they've given me a beta blocker.
I'm one of the unlucky ones who ticks most of the boxes re: meno symptoms.
If you've been checked then try not to worry about them and tell yourself they will pass.
If I get up during the night with them I come on here and read ladies symptoms which reassure me.
I also get them if I've eaten a late meal. 😬
I'm just hoping mine will stop before I go to bed. The joys of menopause.

Going to watch Mariella Frostrops programme tonight about The Menopause.  X

Yup my tests have come back clear too but what if they are missing something, or a test.

I know I know, seems irrational but what if one of my symptoms are being written off as menopause yet something more sinister. Going to ask for full heart test to rule out, it will help me cope

Haha it's ok, I think the same as you,I did have one of those 24 hour monitors on back in my 30s & it showed up when I was having palpitations but specialist said it was anxiety,he was probably right but I feel it can't be good for my heart thumping away the way it does,my sister is on tablets to control palpitations as hers used to go on for hours, they eventually had to stop her heart & restart it but she's fine 😊

There are lots of different heart arrhythmas, so if its new to you do get it checked...benign/idiopathic ecoptics (what some people refer to as palpitations, that skipped beat thing or called premature ventricular contractions ) is usually treatable with finding out the trigger; food, posture, stress, hormones etc. I had  one ecg uuummmmm......30 years ago. It showed them and was told they were benign. Heres a pretty good bit of info on them.....a page you can download....

I dont get the fluttering most people describe.
I seem to feel just one heavy thump in my chest. It happens very irregularly. Sometimes a couple in a minute, then nothing for 5 or 10 minutes, then maybe 1 more, then nothing for a while.
Best way I can describe it is....like watching a big drip of water building up on your tap....and then.... finally.....wait for it......it finally plops heavily into the sink!!!!

Yes ladies one of the worse symptom of menopause for me. Big thumps and sometime a little run of them. Had them for last ten years and iam post menopause. Like some of you have said stress and differant foods.Had ECGs 24monitor on and came back as ectopic beats, still have to go to docs every now and then for reassurance, also this site is brilliant and helps tremendously there is always someone along to help you if you worry about different things. Hope it settles for you xxxxx. Catkins   :)
