Is a very itchy scalp and neck a menopausal symptom?
« on: August 24, 2018, 02:41:50 PM »

I feel I'm going mad. My scalp is so itchy, my neck is tingling, my hair is falling out. I have discovered I've got no estrogen in the tank.

Is this a menopausal / low estrogen symptom?

As oestrogen levels drop so the body may become dry : inside and out.  Between the toes, scalp, skin, vagina, deep in the ears, nostrils.  Currently my insteps have been itching so I know that hormones are up and down.  Lack of oestrogen can cause laxity of muscles = aches and pains.

Thank you.

Does it level out? Or is this it?

I swear I'm not stalking you !

Ok when my shedding started my scalp was VERY itchy.  I am sure there was a link so a dermatologist suggested Nizoral (from Amazon) and I found it really good x

I am thinking anything is possible...
I had loads of what i would regard as ‘odd complaints' things just popping up
Like-: itching  everywhere! - including scalp (nizoral shampoo was useful),
Nails snapping, more hAir on face,  sore feet like bunions, dry eyes, dry nose, incessant growling guts and some ‘heartburn'  they were annoying rather than disruptive and i just went with it.
Then about a year ago heat , night sweats, achy joints, anxiety, insommnia- so me thinks ah this must be peri- went on hrt,  all the majors stopped, but after a few weeks so did all the other ‘odd' symptoms.
So it is only with hindsight that i can say that they were all probably due to declining hormones.
Just upped my dose as some symptoms have returned

well, I know that I'm waaaay along the meno journey - no estrogen/testosterone, FSH of 120, had no periods for 14 months before I started HRT.

The hair shedding started a month ago...the itchy scalp two days ago!

Annie, did the shampoo help the shedding stop or just the itching?

I'm years without a period [2002] but occasionally I am aware of hormones having a shift  >:(.  Period-like pains, various aches and pains, itchiness  :D

It definitely helped with the itching.  I still shed but these days it doesn't notice on my scalp like it did initially.  The worst part for me was although I had a lot of hair I had fine hair, take some out and (to me) it was ultra noticeable:-(

I have lots of fine hair too, Annie.

My hair used to be my crowning glory. It's still nice but it's one of those horrible things where you look back and realise you never appreciated what you had.

I find the changes in hair almost worse than any other physical changes. I've put on some weight, but I was very light, so it's still manageable. But the hair...don't get me talking about that after a few gins...

First world problems, I know, but all this stuff cuts to  the core of my identity

No I definitely get you !

It's what contributes to our feminity, and when that's taken it's distressing.  I was frantic when it first happened, it really distressed me and I started to look at every woman's hair and if I see a female with classic female pattern baldness it terrified me even more thinking that's how I'll be x

How long did you shed for? What did it take for it to stop?

I've just written in another post about it.  I still shed but I think now I produce what I lose IYGWIM

I haven't taken anything for it apart from starting oestrogel and testosterone.  The T definitely helps with confidence so that could be why I'm more accepting ? X
