Going round in circles
« on: August 21, 2018, 09:10:29 PM »

Hello all,
Just wondered if anyone was able to give me some advice please.  To cut a long story short, starting about 3 yrs ago I began suffering with extreme fatigue, aching joints, skin problems, night sweats (even the ankles on my pjs are wringing wet) day sweats that wet me through on my chest, back and face and if I try to anything slightly strenuous, I look like I have stood under the shower, it runs off me! But still having regular periods although a lot lighter/shorter than normal and a lot more painful and increased pmt.
After numerous blood test I was referred to rheumatology who ruled out rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia.
Last November I suggested to the dr maybe perimenopause even though I was still having regular periods. Tried elleste duet which was great for the first month but then reverted back so was put on higher dose. Another couple of months and no improvement so I was switched to femestom which didn't improve things but worse, once I finished the oestrogen part my mood plummeted really low.
Dr decided to refer me to the menopause clinic, which I attended today but as soon as I said I said I still had regular periods she said I certainly wasn't menopausal and there was nothing she could do for me....sounds more like fibromyalgia to me!! And when she found that I'd suffered with depression for a fair few years just kept asking was I sure I'd never been hospitalised due to it!!?? I had been pretty good for a fair few years but with all these troubles, I am starting to go downhill again. I struggle to exercise because of my joints, I constantly stink, not of sweat, I liken it to a cross between a damp dog and fusty clothes (😂you have to laugh!') so just wondered  if anyone else had these problems with drs/specialist? And what did you do next?
I'm very sorry, I did say long story short, got a bit carried away with feeling sorry for myself 😳 pinned all hopes on today's app being the answer 🙁
Thank you x

That's not good.  I do wonder how much more informed those at a 'menopause clinic' are over GPs etc.!   Hopefully you didn't pay for such useless information.  Obviously who ever you spoke to doesn't know about peri-menopause, those years that lead up to The Change.  I could spit bricks on your behalf!

:welcomemm: read  round.  Make notes.  There is a green banner above with 'treatments', have a browse.  You could put the products you have tried into the search box on here to see how others have fared.

What you describe is due to a drop in oestrogen levels.  As they drop the body may become dry: inside and out; nostrils, deep in the ears, vagina [do read our threads on that!], skin, scalp .... as well as muscles get lax = aches and pains which can be dealt with taking over the counter pain relief.

Stink - that reminds me of a thread I began years ago here, OH Errrrr I think I called it.  Not unpleasant but I am aware of it.  DH tells me he doesn't notice .........

You ramble.  Someone will be listening ;-).  Get some pain relief for your joints and read round here.  Then ask the next question ;-)

Welcome aboard the meno train Tattooed Tilly - meno clinics - GP's -psychiatrists - their names are all mud here - there are whole threads going on for pages relating their ineptidudes! They are supposed to be the experts - as my husband says "a spurt is a drip under pressure".

You're defo peri menopausal - stay away from the psychs - they really will send you round the bend.  My story - hormonal depression 40 years and dodgy hormones - you name it I've been tested for it and found nothing - fuzzy head, aching joints, headaches, fatigue - diagnosis of fibro and chronic fatigue at one point - but it's not that. DODGY HORMONES!

How can you run a hormone clinic if you cant spot someone who has problems with their hormones - I despair.  Don't give up - read everything you can here.  I have had to scout around in the last few weeks to find someone to listen to me.  I was prepared to go private if I had to even though I didn't have the money to do it really. I didn't have to in the end but I have had to put my foot down and be clear about what I was saying.  I found that if you read a lot of the posts and work out in your head what you want and tell them - it works better than waiting for them to do their jobs - which they never do (or rarely)  Also you can email Dr Currie on this forum and she sends a letter to your GP.

Read around - ask away - and post what you like  :welcomemm:

Thank you so much ladies for welcoming me to the site.
Just spent the last 20 ms typing out a reply, got called away and by the time I got back it had all disappeared 😩
(And I haven't a clue what I wrote 😂)

I have suffered depression my whole life and I am sure it was being put on the pill at 18 that kick started it. I've been on my current meds coming up 16yrs and to be honest can't ever see me coming off them and unfortunately once a health professional sees the ‘D' word, writes any other ailments off and calls the anxiety card!!
Anyway, just as I finally got a grip on my life at the age of 40, feeling the best I'd ever felt in my life, along came the joint aches, the fatigue, headaches, visual disturbance and sweats. After 2 yrs of blood tests and referrals to this place and that, nothing to be found, it was decided I was probably going through the peri. I felt strangely overjoyed 😂, at least something could be done.
Back to the drs this evening and I'm at square one again, more blood test and another referral to rheum!!
And it suddenly occurred to me this morning, of course I've been having regular periods, I'd been on hrt for the past 9 months!!
Thank you the advice on getting info and telling them what you want (although the ‘specialist' yesterday wouldn't actually let me get a word in)
And that is excellent news that we are able to email dr currie.
Thank you again for your kind words, it is good to know that I'm not alone in this and that it's not all in my head
