hrt gel info needed
« on: February 03, 2018, 08:21:34 PM »

Hello everyone,
after taking lots of different hrt pills the doctor finally gave me the femseven conti  patches, and unfortunately they are not working either, feeling so bloody low most days, don't want to go out and do the things i use to love anymore, just so exhausted physically and mentally, i have been reading up and was wondering if any of you ladies use the gel who still have a womb? would i use the gel plus tale progesterone  tablets? I'm thinking i need more oestrogen? and if i can have the gel then i can up to the right dose? my doctor isn't very understanding as at first she said they don't do combined oestrogen and progesterone in patches!! there is nowhere to go to get help, was hoping there were well women clinics where i could go and discuss all this. i have booked an appointment with a male doctor hoping he may be more helpful! should i ask for more bloods to be taken to see if my oestrogen is low? fed up with life at the moment, just want me back again, been on this long road for a few years and i cant see the light at the end!
hope someone can help
many thanks diane x
ps had an ablation many moons ago so don't have a period, I'm 47 and was put on conti with not having a bleed, but we don't know if i would still be bleeding now if i never had the ablation etc

Hi Diane I finally convinced my Dr to let me try Estrogel which is a gel as 2 lots of different tablets weren't cutting it anymore. The Estrogel allows you to taylor what you need when you need it. I also need progesterone and take this in tablet form Utrogestan for 12 days.  Feel better than I have done on this combo with some fluctuations which are to be expected as still peri. I had to go to my dr informed and told them what I wanted to try and why and she respected I had done my homework and agreed. Good luck with your next appointment x

Oestrogel is brilliant and the best form of HRT I have used by far - I still have a womb.  It works well, it is easily absorbed and very dose flexible meaning you have maximum control over your HRT regime.  If you don't feel good, it is very easy to simply increase the dose.

If you have had an ablation, you can probably do a very long cycle of about 3 months.  You still have to take progesterone but you should not have to worry about breakthrough bleeding or too much of a lining build up.

It might be an idea to get your oestrogen blood levels tested to see how much you have in your system.  If they are rock bottom, at least it would explain why you have been feeling so low.  You could also get your testosterone and progesterone levels checked.

I am thinking of having an ablation myself because I have to take a high dose of oestrogen and can't go much more than 5-6 weeks without a breakthrough bleed.  My gynaecologist is trying to get me onto a 3 month cycle.

Good luck with the appointment, be firm and tell the doctor you want to try the gel.  If all else fails, you could see a private menopause specialist.

Thanks ladies , least I know what to ask for now, can you explain about the 3 months you mentioned? Is that when I have a bleed? Sorry haven't a clue about the seperate oestrogen and progesterone, so I would Use the gel everyday and can up the dose to suit, then take the progesterone tablet form for how long? X

You would use the Oestrogel every day at a dose to suit you but because you have had an ablation, you should be able to get away with taking progesterone every 3 months because you will not build up lining very quickly and won't get breakthrough bleeding but you might bleed a bit when you stop the progesterone if there is any lining to shed.

When my gynaecologist talked about the 3 month cycle I think she suggested progesterone for 10-12 days.   What you could do is have a uterine scan after a few cycles to make sure it's working properly.
