Hello - new here today
« on: January 23, 2018, 01:47:53 PM »

Hi - just wanted to introduce myself - I am 46, almost 47 and am in full menopause - it started 2 months after I was sterilised and this is the 4th month of taking Kliovane (one a day).  At first it seemed to help with my symptoms but this month it seems to not be working at all so I am back to my GP next week to ask what I can do next.

My symptoms are:
Disturbed sleep - sometimes I am hot in the night but most times I am just restless
Aches & pains
Jaw Clenching
Terrible mood swings, irritability, crying for no good reason
Lack of sex drive, would rather OH never touched me again right now.
Lack of interest in the world around me, I have lost my get up & go
This brain fog
Inability some days to accept any change in routines
Daily headaches
Heart racing/feeling like I can't breathe (only happens at night when I am lay down)
Random dizziness - can happen anytime, no warning
Feeling of pressure in my head - almost like my skin it tight on my scalp

I haven't had any bleeding for 16 months - it just stopped dead - I am hoping the GP can offer me something else or ramp up my dosage.  I am desperately trying to lose 4 stone too but every blinking pound is a struggle, somedays I just want to sit and eat fudge and then I feel very sad that I can't!

Oh you'll fit right in, do pass the fudge ..........  ;) I had some really tasty fudge for C.mas, all gone now.

 :welcomemm:  browse round.  Make notes.

Some ladies find keeping a mood/food/symptom diary useful.  Take a list with you when U visit the Practice Nurse or GP.  Perhaps decide which symptom you would like to ease first.

I'm sure someone will be along with HRT advice.

Thanks all - went to see her today and she was really good, has asked me to go for a load of bloods just to double check everything there is ok & also booked me for an ecg next week.  In the meantime she has prescribed Kliovance (I think) it is double my old dose so up to 2mg, she has asked me to see how it goes for the next 6 to 8 weeks, as for the libido thing she has said that if the sleep improves and that doesn't she will refer me to have testosterone but I need to see a specialist.  She was LOVELY though, appointments with her are like gold dust but she is amazing so I am glad I got in to see her today - that itself made me feel a bit better.  I have also taken to wearing my fitbit at night again so I can see the sleep pattern I am following now...

Hi and welcome to MM EMSMUM

Many if the symptoms you are describing could be related to the type of progesterone in  the HRT you have been prescribed and also because you are using a continuous HRT which means you are using progesterone all the time and this can give more side effects like PMT.
Many women do better on a sequential HRT and there are HRT types with kinder progesterones. A sequential regime does mean you will get a bleed each month but it gives half the month just on oestrogen  - oestrogen tends to be the ‘feel good' hormone.
You could try Femoston sequential HRT ( which has a kinder progesterone) or you might find using oestrogen patches or gel (so applying oestrogen tranadermally) with a seperate progesterone eg Utrogestan or Provera as pills for 10-12 days each month. Look under treatments at the top of this page to get clued up on your options.
I'm sure we can help you find your best HRT option - it is trial and error. DG x

Hi EMSMUM

I answered on your other thread about sex drive and oral HRT. I also agree with Dancinggirl that the continuous progestogen may be the cause of some side effects and you might be better off with a cyclical one, and also her advice as to which type ie Femoston 2/10 rather than Kliofem. However do give it a try for now and see how you get on and if no or little improvement ask us again before your next visit and we can advise.
