Whoo Hoo finally getting somewhere with hrt
« on: January 09, 2018, 07:03:43 PM »

Well today had my appointment with a private menopause specialist.
My purse feels lighter and so does my mind.  ;D
Confirmed  what I had already known and not possible to be estrogen intolerant. Went through the different types of progesterone with me and my d/h and agreed to start on low femoston 2 weeks estrogen and 2 weeks progesterone I know I will probably have a bleed but we decided to take things slow to see if it was the progesterone I reacted to. Have a chart to fill in symptoms as I go along and also warned that as my body has not had estrogen in so long I may react at first but hopefully this will settle. BUT he said if I feel really ill to give him a call, Things will be tweaked if needed as we learn what suits me (this sounded ok to me) as for citalopram this reduces libido so he said it was crazy to take this.  But I had stopped a week ago anyway as not getting any sleep on this drug.
Feel so much better and positive.
Just to say to others keep fighting there is light at the end of the tunnel,

slightlymad - I have seen Mr Warren - he's so lovely - listens and explains things properly - I found him really great. So pleased you had some good, sound, advice.  Finally you have someone treating you holistically. Be patient and positive and let things settle over the next few weeks - I think he has set you not the right track.  Keep us posted.

Well so far so good no reaction to the femoston.  Have had a couple of spots but nothing more mood is greatly improved everyone has noticed the difference  ;D Still having night sweats but not so much. Bit concerned about my GP as she has said that I can only stay on these for 5 years.  :-\ So I am thinking I may cover my bases and ask Mr Warren if he will put in a letter that this is not necessary and that I can stay on them for as long as I need them.
Otherwise I may have a battle yet again.
Cant believe that after 2 years of fighting my gps and being fobbed off etc that something so simple that if anyone had taken the time could have sorted this out. 2 years wasted.
Anyway hopefully I am there for now anyway.

Oh no, not again, that is completely wrong!  There is no longer any time or age limit for taking HRT, you can stay on it for as long as you like.  Whoever told you this is hopelessly out of date and needs to check out the new NICE guidelines.

It really is acceptable that women are still having to put up with this nonsense.

I'm glad your HRT is working well, long may it continue.

Hi slightlymad - so pleased the Femston is working for you - it is a very popular HRT (I often suggest women try this) as it suits many women really well.  I'm sure Mr. Warren will write to your GP is you ask him to do a letter stating that you can stay on this as long as is necessary - the 5 year rule is now out of date and if your GP does try to take you off in 5 years, you can quote the advice in the NICE guidelines or go back to Mr. Warren again for further advice - as Mary G has already said. Enjoy feeling better.  Dg x
