All Blood Tests Received - Confused!
« on: October 26, 2017, 12:12:49 PM »

Well here goes - finally got my results!

FSH - 12.5
Oestradiol - 446 pmol
Testosterone - 0.3
Progesterone - 12.6 nmol

I had changed my patch On Saturday and my blood test was Monday morning.

I felt okay on the day of my test - but did crash a couple of hours later. I strongly suspect that I am still peri menopausal still and I think the only to prove this is to have another test within the next fortnight to see if this is wildly different to the above.

I know blood tests aren't that reliable but after having a few earlier this April/June that showed Oestradial around the 100 mark, at least I know I am absorbing.

At least you're absorbing MIS71MUM, so that's a positive.  I can't help much with the rest of your results except to say your T is low.  I was told the average was 1.  I was just under (0.9) when I went on T and had failing libido/response at the time x

Hi Peri - yes it is good news that I'm absorbing.  I'm expecting that if I have 2 more blood tests spaced 2 weeks apart, then that should confirm for now whether I am peri or post.  I hope my plan makes sense.

I know it's a daft question peri but are you in peri?  :o If so, was wondering will consultants prescribe testosterone or do you have to be post?

I think I'm probably post now MIS71MUM, though I don't know for sure as I haven't (and don't intend to) come off hrt to check.

Re T what matters is whether your libido/response has been affected rather than where you are in meno.  Although I think someone has posted on here (can't remember who) that their GP wouldn't prescribe it because of age x

It was probably me. My GP and also the menopause clinic would not prescribe testosterone if you are over 55

Hi there Mis71mum

Great that you are absorbing the gel! Also from your prog reading it does look like you are ovulating otherwise it would be really low in post-meno range - as far as I understand, so to me it seems you are still peri-menopausal. This (the prog) means that your own oestrogen was probably coming less into play at that point in your cycle but difficult to say exactly. Prog rises to a peak round about week 3 but oestrogen falls just after ovulation and then rises again a little and then falls away along with prog at the end of the cycle. You may still be affected to some extent by the rise and fall in oestrogen but the impact will be cushioned considerably by your patch. You may also notice the prog rising and falling as you would when you still had your womb. This would account for your mood swings still - but hopefully less dramatic than before?

I think I mentioned before that the indication for testosterone is not the reading per se but whether you have a libido/response, and your general energy levels/ muscle tone etc

It's amazing how things turn out! The lab tested my progesterone in error but it's been the most telling result.
On the one hand, I'm disappointed to know I'm still Peri! Was hoping that the hysterectomy had finished off my ovary function so things would be less volatile.
On the other hand, I'm delighted to know that I'm not imagining my mood swings, anxiety and depression. I feel so much better that there's still a reason for all of this and it will improve!
It's so difficult to describe to anyone who's not been through this. The peaks and troughs through peri are so difficult to deal with.  But the daily changes are so subtle and get you doubting your own mind!
Thanks all ladies xx

Hi MIS71MUM,
I'm peri and was prescribed Testin.  It has helped me with energy, mood and libido.  Didn't really want to take it and tried to come off it, but did find it made a difference so reluctantly started again.  Had it prescribed intially privately via prof studd but now via NHS meno clinic.  Apply it to my calves as I shave these anyway and it does increase hair growth.  My (new) clinical nurse specialist said there is no way to know if you have gone into the full meno until you come off HRT and see what happens???
