Hello
I'm a 47 year old woman and I've been suffering with back issues for several years and have been referred to a musculoskeletal specialist as my pain is worsening. I've also got 2 incidentalomas in my right adrenal gland which I've been told are nothing to worry about.
I've recently had further blood tests done some for the menopause and I wondered if anyone could help me work out these results please

LH AND FSH
Serum LH level 24.9 u/L
LH Reference Ranges
Female: Follicular Phase 0.8 - 12.5 U/L
Midcycle 8.7 - 76.3 U/L
Luteal 0.5 - 16.9 U/L
Pregnant Less than 1.5 U/L
Post menopausal 15.9 - 72.6 U/L
Children Less than 0.1 to 6.0 U/L
Serum follicle stimulating hormone level 57.5 u/L
Please note NICE guidelines NG23 (2015) do not
recommend the use of laboratory tests in otherwise
healthy women aged above 45 years to diagnose
menopause and this should be done based on
clinical symptoms.
FSH Reference Ranges
Female: Follicular Phase 1.5 - 11.4 U/L
Midcycle 3.4 - 34.2 U/L
Luteal 1.1- 9.5 U/L
Pregnant Less than 0.3 U/L
Post menopausal 23.0-132.9 U/L

Hi Nuttyknitter - welcome to the forum and just to say that we were all "new to all this" at some point so ask anything you want of us and we will do the best we can to help you.

Blood tests for menopause are very unreliable which is why it is not now advised for women over the age of 45 to be tested for menopause by blood test. Which stage of your cycle did you have the test done?

The FSH level shows that you are in peri-menopause or menopause. Hard to differentiate sometimes. As you get into peri (before) meno the FSH levels rise so the higher the level the further into menopause you are. This is because your body raises the level to try to get the ovaries to release an egg and as the egg supply dwindles this gets harder to achieve and the hormone is raised even more. Not sure if that makes sense.

Someone else will be along soon with more understanding of the other results.
