Dull ache, lower abdomen....
« on: July 17, 2017, 03:36:25 PM »

For a while now, I've had what I can only describe as a dull (non painful) ache in lower abdomen/pelvic area.   I haven't had any urinary/cystitis symptoms.  Bladder and bowels working okay.  No lower back ache or anything else at all.   It's very isolated to middle of area between hips, just above pelvic bone.

I've mentioned it to my GP a few times but no offer of examination or anything.

Because I've been up and down with my energy levels/moods over the past 6 months, only today I wondered if it could be my ovaries.   Had the rest removed 9 years ago.

I've also had quite a bit of male type hair growth on chin for a few years which is really annoying but after having exhausted laser removal etc, I'd just put it down to having too much unopposed oestrogen in my body.  HRT patches for 9 years.

I've spoken to my surgery about referring me to the Menopause Clinic at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford (thank you for the nod on this, Menopause Matters) and having just contacted the surgery, the office tell me that my GP is arranging that for me.

I remember reading somewhere that course chin hair can be a symptom of PCOS and wondered if that was linked to this ache I'm having there too.

Ha, I know we're not GP's on this site.... apart from our lovely specialist of course, but I do at times feel that there is more information on here, than I've gleaned from both my own research, and that from my GP.

I'd be super grateful if anyone has any idea what this might be whilst I wait for my appointment.   And... I'm not the type to get freaked out with worry about things.  But, I do like to be proactive because I think it's better to be like that.

Hi Pollyanna

Not sure I can help you - have you been diagnosed with PCOS? Increasing hair growth on chin is not a sign of unopposed oestrogen - but I understand is a relative imbalance of testosterone over oestrogen such as occurs in post-menopause for many women.

Your doc is surely remiss in not investigating your ongoing pelvic pain. I would have thought a scan and/or blood tests were in order?

At least your practice has agreed to a meno clinic referral although I expect there is a bit of a wait.

Sorry I can't help further but hope you get an answer soon.

Hi Hurdity

Just viewed your response.   Sorry, I find it difficult to keep up with the posts here.

Thank you and yes, I'd also considered PCOS.  Certainly when I get to the meno clinic, I will talk about that.  I have read things online regarding Tibolone and pelvic discomfort and so I'm assuming (before I know for sure), it's that.

I used to agree on the testosterone imbalance causing hair growth, however having had my T levels checked out many times, they are low.    I was told by someone (a doctor friend of mine), that if you have high levels of (unopposed) oestrogen then this can cause androgenic symptoms.

Who knows..... I await with baited breath.   x

Somebody has just posted a link about testosterone which mentioned,I believe, something about unopposed oestrogen/high levels causing androgenic symptoms.
Of course now I can't remember who ,will try to track it down. ::)

About 15 years ago I got pain in pelvic area, left side. Having had C sections, ectopic pregnancy & hysterectomy I was referred to gynae. Mine was my ovaries, but also adhesions from previous ops.

Of course, everyone's different. Hopefully once you've been seen, all will become clearer & a solution will be found for you.

Thank you Cubagirl.

Yes, it does feel like its in the ovary area.  Ha, as I have no uterus, there's very little else going on down there.   ;)

I've sort of know what you are describing 'cos I've had that too, for years ......... a few days then it's gone.  Never enough to go to the GP about 'cos it always goes, aware of it enough to press over the area gently.  Sometimes it's as simple as a wind bubble  ::)

Is it on the left hand side? My doctor said they really can't tell if pain there is from the ovary or the bowel. I had pain there and I still don't know for sure which was causing it.

My GP was pretty sure it was ovarian pain, hence gynae referral. However, you're right it could have been bowel.

It isn't continual, no.

And it's dead centre, and quite low down in pelvis.

Most odd. Not a bowel thing, nor wind.

Oh my goodness Sparkle. That sound a bit 'ouch'.

Sending you a hug. X

Where am I?

I'm 57, had tvh 9 years ago. Been on oestrogen patches sinc then, until a month ago when doc suggested I try Tibolone.

I'm liking some things....no more fluid retention...hurrah!

Fab hair condition. Bouncy and shines. Yay!

Bowels working tickety boo. Every day like clockwork.

No joint pain.

However.....low pelvic aches.
Very tired (not normal for me).

Bit negative and again not like me.

Anxious as hell but only at times.
