Advice pls! 4th week of HRT and feeling very emotional
« on: May 21, 2017, 12:27:07 PM »

Hi ladies, so after a good start on HRT (after mirena removal), 2 pumps oestrogel and 100mg Utrogestan continuously (meno specialist said to do this for a few mths), sleep, mood and motivation all improved, had 10 day post mirena bleed so cycle messed up now.

Anyway the last few days have been feeling anxious, jittery, tired, demotivated and very weepy. Am not sure whether it is too much estrogel or too much progesterone. Do you think after 21 days Utrogestan I have too much in my system. Have been reading about intolerance to utrogestan but until now it really helped me to sleep.

I know the road to HRT heaven can be bumpy, but any pearls of wisedom would be so appreciated. Am worried and hope this is just a phase and will pass but don't want to make things worse! Many thanks in advance Sx

Hi Sweetie

Yes I think the continuous utrogestan will be the problem, 21 days is a long time.  I know when I was on it I could never tolerate longer than 7 days (10 at a push) without it becoming too much for me. During this time I had a scan and 7 days had been working perfectly fine.  Perhaps contact your specialist explain your struggling x

Thanks Peri, did you also feel low and weepy from it?

Yes, I just hit a wall and couldn't take anymore.  I would then have a low point for couple of days as it came out of my system and then I would be ok again until next time x

Are you feeling any better today sweetie222? I can't tolerate progesterone for a long time either even though I take it vaginally. Are you peri or post menopausal? If you are still peri-menopausal then it could be that your own cycle has kicked in - if ovulation has taken place and this could override the HRT. However if you absorb the gel effectively the worst of the oestrogen lows should be avoided, but possibly you could be producing some of your own progesterone in addition maybe?

Thank you for checking in Hurdity, you really are the Guardian Angel of these forums!! Are you a Dr?

So I wrote to specialist and she said to stop Utrogestan for this week and see how I feel. The mood passed by that evening but it was awful. I am def peri, had mirena for a year and guess having it removed a mth ago plus starting HRT have been a lot for my body to manage. I def felt better on Monday, today a bit edgy but maybe 2 pumps oestrogel without utrogestan is too much. Does anyone reduce oestrogen when they stop utrogestan.

I am hoping that after another month or so things will settle down which is what meno dr has suggested. Really appreciate the many wonderful insights in this forum. Thank you 🌺

Sweetie, why did you remove the mirena? I hope you don't mind me asking. Thank you.
