Seem to be feeling worse on femeston
« on: February 15, 2017, 08:36:40 PM »

Hi I'm not sure if anyone has any advise or not........ I was on Elleste duo and not feeling too bad but periods were heavy and painful. My consultant changed me over to femeston but I feel worse mentally and I'm not sure if I'm having a nutty moment or if femeston isn't working  properly for me. I've been on these for about 6 weeks now and I don't think I've had a day where I feel great, I've put on weight, ache all over and I'm so tired.

Hi Karen, I think you need to give any changes 3 months to kick in and make a difference so it might be better to persevere a bit if you can bear it?  Am sure the other ladies will have more suggestions.  Sorry that you are feeling so rubbish - have you seen anybody other than your GP?  There are a few recommended on this sitse so you could get referred or pay privately?  As I am fond of saying, a lot of GPs know a little about a lot, but not a lot about menopause unless you are very lucky.  Good luck xx

Hi - is it the same dose of oestrogen? (1mg or 2mg)  The first two weeks should not have been a lot different as it is only the progestogen that has changed.

Hi Smirking Pixie, thank you replying. My consultant is a specialist and I was referred by my gp. I was going to try and persevere until my nxt appointment with him but that's been moved from the begining of March to the end of May  :-\.

Hi Karen you really can't judge how your new HRT will be until you have at least given it a full 3 months trial period. It really does take a full 12 weeks to kick in. I changed to Femoston recently (1/10) from Prepak C and was in despair at first because I started to get hot flushes again which persisted for the first month! I'm now on month 3 and the hot flushes have completely disappeared. Good luck!

Hi Karen75

 :welcomemm:

As dahilagirl says - if you are on the same dose of oestrogen it shouldn't affect you too much - unless for some reason you get on better with the progestogen in the Elleste Duet (norethisterone) than Femoston (dydrogesterone) - it is usualy the other way round!

As Smirking Pixie and Beaker say - give it the full 3 months. I can't explain the change in weight (if it is the same dose of oestrogen) unless the different progestogens differentially affect you?

Could it also be coincidence that something else is going on? Vitamin deficiencies can occur (especially Vit D at this time of year if your diet is insufficient). Thyroid maybe? Iron? Hope you get sorted! :)
