Is HRT for me?
« on: October 26, 2016, 08:14:37 AM »

Just a quick thought after a sleepless night.

Each time I try a regime, whether it be Femoston or Evorel, they start off okay for the first few months, then they get worse.  My bleeds get earlier every month and heavier.
And I seem to get less and less good days.

Let's just say that my bleeds are due to too much oestrogen and I'm not ovulating, should I be on HRT?
Or oestrogen? Does anyone knows this? Because I think this is why I'm going wrong and would explain why I feel better on the progesterone part.

Any advice please? As due to have an ablation soon and am thinking that the Mirena may be the better option for me.

Mis71Mum - if the bleeds are proving a problem and you actually feel better on progesterone, then why not have a Mirena??? A Mirena could solve a lot of your problems and you can simply tailor the amount of oestrogen you use to what you need.  DG x

Thanks for the replies. I'm just scared of the Mirena because of not being able to reverse it myself.

But I'm getting to the point where I suffer greatly from progesterone withdrawal then a week later, it's my bleed that gets me depressed. Then I'm sure my Oestrogen gets to high too as I start having racing thoughts until I take the progesterone.

That's why I worry that I take Oestrogen when I don't need it

I was terrified of having mirena in case it made my pms worse but I had ran out of options so went for it . Nearly five weeks and my pms is still bad but no worse than on utrogestran.
I did have a guarantee from menopause specialist she would remove it anytime I wanted could you ask for that to put your mind at rest over you been in control of its removal and the anxiety that must bring ? Xx

a Mirena is removed very easily, when I had mine removed it came out really easily.
Mis71Mum, I suspect a Mirena could be your best option - f you do't try you'll never know.  The mirena is the preferred option of many gynaes these days as it often sorts out so many problems.   DG x

Hello and thanks for replies.
You're right - I am letting my fear stop me from trying other things. I just know in my heart, that the progesterone is key for me. Surely this is the best way to try it.

The peri menopause is like walking a tightrope blindfolded!

Update

Went to see my gyny today and it's been confirmed I have adenomyosis and fibroids.
I had so many questions but ended up in tears for the whole meeting. And having hot flushes.

So we've decided from my charts that I do well on Oestrogen and progesterone but not the changes in the hormones. So for now, it's the Mirena to be fitted next week.

He also said chopping and changing patches won't do us any good.

I had been on evorel sequi for 3 months, came off it for surgery, restarted at 37.5 and then having various patch problems this week and stopping altogether will probably explain why I've been having anxiety and panick attacks all week.

Just need to hang on till Next Thursday now.

Mis71mum - try to go with the flow on this now.  The Mirena may well give you the consistency you need and if you then use Oestrogel to control flushes you can start low - say one pump per day - for 4 weeks and only increase to 2 pumps per day after that if need be. You're getting good treatment and advice so try to relax and let the new regime work it's magic.  Dg x

Hi thanks for the reply Dancing Girl.

Yes I hope it will, and if I get a bit of sedation and calmness thrown in for good measure that will be a bonus!

He also promised that I could have gas and air if necessary, for the procedure and that swung it for me, I love that stuff!

Fingers crossed this will do the trick.
