??? vagifem reaction anyone
« on: September 19, 2016, 08:22:15 PM »

I am on my 9th day of vagifem. I went to  the doctors  2 weeks ago was given dermovate, vagifem and used replens for lubrication. Over the last week my vagina has become increasingly raw to  the extent my skin has two inch long cuts down  the side of my outer lips. My skin is also peeling on my clitoris.SO SORRY TO SOUND CRUDE. My inner labia doubled in size and  I have became so  dry I cannot even put applicator in for vagifem,It look so so angry down  there. I have stopped dermovate and replens , and wondering now is this becoming increasingly worse  the more im inserting vagifem. Everybody seems to have excellent results with vagifem and I really want to continue but things are so unbearable. Anyone get worse before they  became better  or had allergic reaction to vagifem

Oh my goodness, Stingyone! What a time you're having!!!! I don't have any experience of Vagifem and VA issues but there are some very knowledgeable ladies here who will be able to chat with you who will be along shortly I'm sure.

I just wanted to send you hugs, and hope you manage to get some good advice  and relief soon!

Hi, just wanted to say I really could not tolerate the vagifem, left my vagina feeling terrible, felt like I had been burned down there....I do think some people are allergic to the fillers....thou I know others love it. Now using estring which doesn't have anything added and ovestin on the outer area.
Sorry not to be more helpful, just didn't want you to think you were the only one experiencing problems with vagifem xx

Hi stingyone - how uncomfy!!

What is the dermovate prescribed for if you don't mind me asking? This is not normally prescribed for VA and can cause problems when used on the genitals if you are sensitive to the ingredients. One in ten people suffer sore skin and burning so I wonder whether this is causing your discomfort rather than vagifem.

Why the dermovate? I thought that was only given if you have a vulval skin condition, not for VA.
I have no problems with Vagifem but when I used Replens in the past I reacted to it in a bad way...very inflamed skin :'(
Sounds really awful, can you get another appointment?

Ah thanks Tinkerbell  and Taz2  for replies . Its  a nightmare im off  abroad  on holiday for 2 weeks Wednesday thinking of discontinuing everything. No  fun for  me just want to feel ok and comfortable . The redness keeps increasing and its not just the outside but inside is very dry. Its worse than it was last week  when I started all  this.  My GP has referred me to gynae about 7 month waiting list may ask to go private. The doctor said I have a few areas of hyper pigmentation so   is queering lichen scleosis   thus the dermovate.  I have noticed the areas myself but think  they are scarring fro  stitches when I had my children twenty five years ago . so will have to wait and see

Dermovate is a very potent steroid .

I was originally diagnosed with lichen and given it , if you don't have it ( which I don't ) dermovatebis the worst thing to be given as it really thins the skin , to to ended up worse off from it.

Also the specialist needs to see it if it's lichen , not whist the betnovate is being used. I despair sometimes.

Highly unlikely the vagifem and highly likely the steroid.

Ahhh - stop using the Dermovate ??!!!  You may even be sensitive to the Replens. I was told to use Sudcrem once and it burned like hell!!! just use the Vagifem with something kinder like ‘SYLK' or ‘YES' vaginal moisturiser.
Just wash in saline solution for the time being and avoid anything scented forever after this.  Good luck.  DG x

If you're in that state - but needing to feel reasonable on holiday - I'd stop using everything you've currently got and phone GP to ask if they'll do you another script for an Estring, which is a silicone ring which provides the oestrogen without the fillers. Maybe also get some Sylk which is a gentle moisturiser for your bits. That way you should get the oestrogen you need without the irritants.
Good luck - that sounds really grim.
